I read a magazine or watched a history show can'y remember and I guess it really doesn't matter but here goes...they've (can't remember who they are) drilled down for core samples at the south pole and found vegetative matter way deep meaning a hundred gazzilion years ago it was green and warm at the south pole...I don't think there was an industrial revolution going on at that time. My thought is the earth is doing what it has always done, and it's pretty egotistical of man to think we can cause worldwide change like you are describing. Besides that if we could how are we going to change it? Is China, Russia, India or any other industrial countries other than the U.S. going to shut industry down? I don't think so. Anyway my 2cents feel free to tear it apart.

OK.

Those core samples also showed that in the last 100 years or so, the temperatures have risen faster than any other time in history.

China, Russia, India, Europe, North America. We all live on this planet, and it's the only one we have. If we want to continue living on this planet, we have to do something to help slow that rise in temps. Besides, polution is polution no matter how you look at it.

Then again, after December 2012, will we really have to worry about it?

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

I don't disagree that we are responsible for Polluting the Earth, we have come along way in controlling that in my lifetime with emission controls, better landfills, better water quality, and better education. I don't have a problem with that part.

But how can you say we are changing the Earth's Climate. Most of Missouri was covered in Ice during the last Ice age and it has been receding since. And the recession of this ice is thawing out beds of old vegetation that releases methane into the air. It is not the cows farting that is causing global warming. Solar Activity peaks and wanes and science has shown trends with that and its relation to warming and cooling.

Your CO2 increase could be countered by replacing natural forests to absorb the CO2, but we clear the land for other things and don't bother to replace the trees.

Your flooding is caused by man, we have channelized streams, clear cut forests allowing runoff to increase, paved everything creating more runoff, etc. When it rains, it does not soak in like nature intended it too, it runs down hill, fast.

Earth has seen many changes and it has recovered better each time. From volcanic activity to shallow seas, dinosaurs to mammoths, now we have smallies and whitetail deer, Missouri has seen it all and is still very liveable.

Of course, it really could be the book of Revelation coming thru...... Conflict in the Middle East, lost morality, Obama, floods, etc all seem to make you think about the words in the last chapter of the Bible.

=D.gif I'm speechless.

It is doing what it's always done...which is change. It is NOT doing it at the same pace, and it's pretty naive to think we CAN'T cause worldwide change.

Even for an Atheist, you must have read the Bible to post the statement, so you have been warned....

A big asteroid falling from the heavens will cause climate change. Cows farting and letting off methane will not. Think of how many buffalo roamed the plains before white man killed them off. I am sure there were more than cows in modern times.

Population estimates for bison pre-settlement are somewhere around 30 million.

The current US cattle population is better than three times that- more than 96 million.

If that's your argument against the climate change hypothesis, welcome aboard :D

Don't forget the natural and recurring axis changes that the earth has done over the many millenia. If I remember right, the last major ice age that effected this part of the world was because of that.

I have no doubt that we as a world population have contributed to, if not sped up, the current climate changes that we are experiencing. I still have to wonder how much is just the natural way of the "Big Blue Ball"? It has a way of deleting bad files and starting over with new uncorrupted files. If you get the drift. Sort of a re-boot, if you will.

So, in the name of mankind, and the rising costs of daily living, I have made as many adjustments in my life as is possible to minimize my footprint. As we all should.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Yeah, and the Tooth Fairy might sneak into my house and strangle me in my sleep, but it's not keeping me up at night.

In which branch of science do you have your PhD?

Sorry, no PhD, just a Bachelors Degree in Biology, Minor in Physics, and Post Graduate level courses in Pathogenic Microbiology. But that was a really long time ago and I partied alot in my college years.
