DaddyO Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Put this in google maps and see if it is what you are looking for. "Mineral Fork, Kingston, Washington, Missouri" DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Al Agnew Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Yep, Rivermont was at the old Hwy. 47 bridge on the Mineral Fork. Great little campground on a great creek. They built the new bridge, the old bridge got removed, some rich bunch bought up the campground along with a lot of other land along the creek in that area and closed it all down. The last time I floated that section of Mineral Fork, you had to carry the canoe up the LONG, steep hill to the road shoulder at the new bridge, and the folks who own it now had a sign up that said they would prosecute for trespass anyone using that access who didn't have a valid fishing license...an interesting take on the issue of keeping the party idiots away, and one I fully support. I hope they keep it that way. I'm willing to put up with the hardship of that very poor access in return for not having to share it with drunken slobs. The old Rivermont Campground did get a little seedy in the last few years before it disappeared. It was becoming an attraction for a rather bad element.
Gavin Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 The Old CG is about a 1/2 mile upstream of the Hwy 47 bridge (North West Corner). Park at the bridge and wade up. Or float down from Hwy F. Was down there in April...fishing was nothing to write home about. Cheers.
cwc87 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 This rivermont campground is a real memory. You never know who or what you could expect at the now closed area. Last time I went I chained and locked my canoe to a tee post while i rode up river to retrieve my truck. Kinda nice that it is fenced off and the rough crowd has left. Also, the water mocassins mentioned in OZ Hawskley river guide book kept folks away. Awesome! That Kingston School road that gravel for 10 miles is a experience also.
Gavin Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Oldly enough...I've never seen a water mocassin on the F to 47 stretch...and I've floated it many times...The Fouche up above F has a bunch of them though...Particularly below the dam on Sunnen Lake.

Great Gavin my daughter is at camp Lakewood on Sunnen lake all this week. And she is a little accident prone(naturally).
eric1978 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I was thinking about trying to hit Mineral Fork in the next few days if I get a chance. Is the Kingston access still available for use, or what?...I'm confused. As far as the MDC Paddler's Guide is concerned, it's still good.
Gavin Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Its still open as far as I know...and you can still access at 47. Cheers.
hank franklin Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I haven't been on the Board in quite a while and what a joy to find this thread first place I looked. Old Rivermont was my parent's favorite spot before we started hitting the Bourbeuse when friends got a clubhouse. I've often wondered about it myself, where it went to, what it was called, and such. My dad hauled a few big rocks out of the creek to put in his garden, they're still out in the front garden. The creek was great for little kids as I recall, we got one photo of me there in diapers! It was a winding road with big whooshing hills (47) to get there, dad used to gun some of those hills and us kids felt our tummies turn over. There was a rope swing down there as I recall and the water was never really deep was it? Memories...
