eric1978 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Would it be a reasonable stretch of water to paddle/drag upstream from the Kingston access and float back down? I read some old reports of lots of logjams and other obstacles to deal with around there. How's the depth on that stretch at normal levels?
Gavin Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Havent been up from Kinston in awhile...but I'd walk it because of the low water bridge about a mile up from the access and the long portage from the lot to the water. Or float from Kingston down to Mammouth. A chainsaw may be a good idea. Cheers.
Members jecuwilson Posted August 3, 2010 Members Posted August 3, 2010 The kingston access is ok, but the last time I was there it was low and very shallow. My brother and I waded a mile or so down and caught nothing but dinks. Where can you get to the MF and wade some decent water? We stopped and waded the 47 bridge area as well. Caught the biigest smallie there and it was only a 16 incher. Is there any good access above the 47 bridge?
Gavin Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Hwy F bridge...about nine miles up from 47. Skinny water up there too.
Guest P. owensby Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Yesterday I went upstream from hi-way F and found alot of people on the fork, with you're run of the mill toothless tweaker's and tattoed bait fishing mindless meateaters. None the less, did have a 20 fish day including at 3:32, a 18 inch monster (give or take a quater inch, no ruler, pics when my gal get's home, don't know this new camera yet). You know the Fork is funny, it's real nice in the spring and fall, but in the summer months, it kinda sucks here and there...
Stoneroller Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I fish Mineral Fork frequently throughout the summer. if you dont mind carrying your boat down from the 47 bridge you can float from there to the kingston access, but you then have a 1/4 hike through the woods to get to the parking area. better is to float from 47 to the take out on the big river at the mammoth access. the water is pretty low right now, but you can wade the creek and float the pools. local fishing pressure and development along the banks of the stream in recent years has decimated that creek. when I started fishing it around 2002, rarely would I see other people, their trash, or the destruction of the creek. now it's all too common. also note, many of the locals around there think it's legal to shoot someone for stepping out of the creekbed (water). The guy who was giving me a hard time claimed that the local conservation agent told him it was tresspassing if someone wasn't in the water. I offered to call MDC on my phone and he decided to go hassle someone else. I'd like to note in the 8 years I've fished down there, probably 10+ trips each season, I have NEVER seen MDC down there enforcing the regulations on that stretch of water. Keep in mind it is a special regulation area only 1 smallmouth over 15 inches may be kept. with no enforcement and being such a small stream, it didnt take long for the fish in that stretch to be decimated. Guest P. owensby Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I had one last year at the 47 bridge come up to me and ask me for my license, pretty cool agent actually, and gave me a couple of spots to fish on one of the tributaries as well...
Members Bea Posted August 1, 2020 Members Posted August 1, 2020 Does anyone remember what year it flash flooded at Rivermont on a Memorial Day weekend? I was there as a kid and woke up floating in a car. The next day people were hanging in trees it was crazy!!!
