packersooner Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I have and they work very well at times. speed of boat is a factor and sinker weight Kwall, What kind of sinkers are you using? I have used walking sinkers in the past and they get caught up in the rocks pretty easy. I would think those banana looking sinkers by Lindy might work better around rocks. Jason

LINDY stuff work great control your speed and weight size is critical that is something you have to feel out, there are so many types of boats, motors, configuations.Hope this helps
Members mud puppy Posted June 21, 2010 Members Posted June 21, 2010 I think I'm fishing the right depth and places, but am starting to cuss the bluegill when I use the half nightcrawler on the jighead for walleye. Any ideas on how I can refine my target to walleyes and quit wasting all the worms on the blueglls? Getting tired of the tappatappatappa and bare hook retrieve.
eyeman Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 mud puppy; use a small treble trailer hook sz 12 mustad is what i use or premade by northland tackle that has the rubber coated loop to put on your primary hook . this setup works a whole lot better if you troll them on BB and harnesses that way you don't get hung in the rocks as much.back about two weeks ago we caught 60-70 walleyes and kept 21, check old post titled kansas walleye.as the thermocline establishes you will have to move deeper to get away from most bluegills because the walleyes will be deeper, but the gills will be spawning again. all walleyes we caught were 8- 16 FOW.hope this helps.

If your catching lots of bluegill, then your close. Move in or out a bit and see if the walleye are a little shallower or deeper. and just in case that doesn't work, bring lots of extra worms!! Sometimes it's a difficult thing to get them to stay off while you move around and find the eyes. Good luck!! Hunter75 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 well we tried saturday, man was it hot. We ended up with one walleye on the crawlers, those stinky slimey drum were in a feeding frenzy and that is all we could catch. We tried trolling but all we caught trolling was crappie. Had one crappie that went almost 14 inches. Found a 22 inch walleye that weighed right at 4 lbs struggling to survive, it was floating in about 10 feet of water around Birch. It didn't have any obvious trauma or a hook hanging out of its throat so we weren't really sure what killed it.
Members lollygagger Posted June 22, 2010 Members Posted June 22, 2010 Took a kid out to catch anything that swims Sun 6PM to 10:30 PM. Got 3 short bass (pop R &grub) lost 2 that would've gone on Senko. Swung & missed 4 after dark. Monday AM 3 shorts on grubs. Got so hot , trolled so the kid catch something and catch a little breeze. Morgans to Cane Hill got 16 whites, 3 crappie, 4 (short) smallies, 5 (short)LM, 2 walleye, 3 channel cats, and 7 Drum (3 to 5 lbs). Kid had a ball. Took a break for lunch. Kid keeps fishing and gets 17" large mouth casting while I ate. In 22 ft of water. Finally got so hot we left around 3. Lesson learned: Put the kid on fish no matter what. Let him get hung up and lose some of my good lures. Trade off is worth it. Trolled small med depth cranks handpainted to resemble baby white bass.

I fished quite a few different points and only came up with one short. I've caught a ton on these points in the weeks past so I know the method was right. Like Hunter said tho it was extremely hot that day. Maybe they've moved to a summer pattern, or maybe it was just the weather keeping there jaws locked tight. Did catch 12 keeper crappie throughout the day though. Anyone been catching any eyes on the points still since saturday? Just curious if the heat wave has moved these fish elsewhere.
