KCRIVERRAT Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Hey Wily... did you see a big group of crazed females down there? My wife's annual girls float was this weekend. They stayed at River Ranch and did an 8 mile float back to the campground. 36 women total... don't know if I'd wanna be the only rooster in that henhouse. (There was a day though!) ollie Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Wily, wish I would have known you were at creekside. Me and the boys camped there this weekend. I didn't do so well catching fish either. I think the heat had them in a different pattern for now. The water is low that's for sure. I bet you dragged a lot. My boys wanted to float until I told them they would be dragging the canoe. With little sleep from the night before they just weren't up to that so I fished while they slept in! Like I said, I didn't do well either. Did catch so huge eyes and some small dinks, but that was all. wily Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 we really didn't drag that much -- but the water was definitely low. I dragged at the drop, but that was about it. lots of small fish, but it seemed like the big fish were cruising, and we never caught one. our biggest smallmouth was probably 12 inches...lots and lots of fish in 8-10 range.
Zack Hoyt Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 How far downstream is Tilden? I have walked in at powell a few times, but it was winter and I was exploring. My grandparents are about 2mi south of there so I may cruise up that way to fish and make the obligatory stop to see them.........and of course get a free dinner. wily Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 it's about 8 miles...camp tilden is cyclone on the maps
ollie Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I did get carded by an agent. Forgot to tell you that. Younger guy in a canoe with wife and kid. I sure could have used him last weekend when I saw a guy poaching for sure. That makes the 5th time in about ten years now. I must really look like I'm poaching. Zack Hoyt Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Thanks Wily. Cyclone I am familiar with. Been years since I have done that float though. May have to make a summer outting up that way and do some hiking. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
wily Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 good that they were out...i saw one guy with 3 or 4 small brownies on a stringer down by cooper's crossing as we floated past. i asked him why he was keeping them and he said to show his kids. if an agent would have been floating by...he would have saw them too, and his kids would have really gotten a show.
