Kayser Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Just curious, but how do you get your cranks to run 25 feet deep? Put a weight in front, or will the Wart get that deep on a long enough line? Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Sore Thumbs Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Just curious, but how do you get your cranks to run 25 feet deep? Put a weight in front, or will the Wart get that deep on a long enough line? Rob You can buy crank baits that will get close to that depth with Flourocarbon line. Storm makes those wieghts that u can stick on the bill or on the bottom of the crankbait. Check out the new Dredger crankbaits from Basstar. You can fish them as deep as u want. Wieght is on the bill and it is designed to stand straight up when it hits the bottom that way you won't get hung up. Good Luck.
rps Posted June 27, 2010 Author Posted June 27, 2010 I troll using Power Pro 10 pound braid. I use the Precision Trolling book to determine depth with their dive curves. I have been using the system for several years and can effectively fish most depths. What I have to do is change lures to target the desired depth. My trolling boxes contain wiggle warts (2 sizes), fat free shad (three sizes), Norman Little N and DD22, reef runners (2 sizes), hot n tots (1/2 oz.) Bandit 300 series and flat max, and Rapala shad raps. Basically, 8 feet to 35 feet.
Kayser Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Gotcha. I was hoping to get some shad raps and original rapalas down to that magical 20-25ft mark, but it looks like I'll need to get some different baits for that. Rob WARNING!! rps Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 If you want rapalas and shad raps that deep, you have to go with snap weights or lead core line. These have their own problems. Seems everything is a trade off.
