Drath, I'm a little older dude as you can tell from the avatar but young at heart!

RC, hehehe I'm older than most folks that have a 12 week old, that's for sure. We got a late start. It's a dark brown hat, kind of a floppy cowboy style. To make sure I stick out Sunday I'll wear my bright white fishin' shirt with an American flag on the right sleeve and a BASS patch on the left.

I got down Sunday about 1:30. Started fishing zone 2 and met NoLuck. Rich and I talked awhile and he even let me touch his 3wt Winston :touched:

He was heading home and I went back to fishing. Caught a very few the rest of the afternoon until 7 when I quit.

Monday morn I started a the siren up by the island. Could not keep them off a John Deere! Stopped counting at 20 but the fishing was great. drath and FlyFishnFool showed up

and introduced themselves. We chatted and fished for a couple of hours. Olive Midge size16 was good after the John Deere quit working. About the time we quit fishing JJTroutbum and his dad showed up and we visited awhile and split up. I was great to meet you guys and I centainly enjoyed the company.

JJ, his Dad and I fished below the bridge in the afternoon for awhile. I was standing on the rocks on one side of the stream drifting an olive midge and a sz 20 red brassie dropper.

A nice Brown hit the dropper and hauled butt up stream. I could see the gold flashing as he headed up stream and it looked like a 3 lb or so fish to me. He headed back down stream

towards JJ who was in the waster but on the opposite side of the stream. I should have asked him to net him as he went by if I knew what was going to happen next. He headed back out in the middle...got into some moss..and entered the early release program. The tipit broke 3 inches above the fly. Not sure what happened. Sure was fun though. I celebrated by eating a large portion of JJ's cold watermelon after we got out of the stream. Man, that was a good watermelon!..even though we had to cut it up with my dirty filet knife. I left shortly after that and made several stops on the 3 hr drive back to KC to relieve myself from the watermelon

It was a great 2 days for me and it sucks to be back at work today. I need to retire.

BTW, Sorry to FlyFishnFool. His Ford truck was broken into at the store before the siren on Monday morning. They got some stuff and I'll let him elaborate if he wants to.

Hi RC,

I had a good time fishing with you and drath. Did not get to fish with JJTroutbum, but was glad to meet him as well.

Yeah - I guess the days of being able to leave anything in your vehicle (even when locked) are over at the BSSP and probably other campgrounds as well. I got down to BSSP early Monday morning, and went into the store to buy a tag shortly after 5:30am; when I came out someone had broken into the back of my truck (with a camper shell on it) and stole a TFO Pro 9' 5wt rod and Bass Pro rod tube, a very good Tilleys fishing hat and some other miscellaneous stuff - basically anything at the tail end of the truck bed. This was your basic smash and grab, and take what ever is easy to steal and run! And probably the worst part was I missed about an hour of fishing while I had to wait a while to make connections with the sheriff to file a report! I eventually went fishing and met up with the sheriff later that morning. Repair estimates on the truck damage will have to wait until next week.

However, that certainly did not stop the fishing activities, and I still had a great week (I was down Monday - Friday). If there ever was a week of weather that makes people say - "you should have been here last week" - well this was that week! The weather was perfect, high 60's at night with daytime temps in the high 70's or low 80's, and just a touch of a breeze every day in the afternoons. While Monday was certainly the best day of the week, Tue-Thu were not too bad either, most days the fishing was almost as good as Monday. I caught 30-35 fish every day in the morning, and then the same number again in the evening - generally a great week. Friday was a lot slower, but even then I still caught over 30 before I had to leave in the afternoon to drive home. The small beadhead midges in olive and brown were the top flies for me, but I talked to a couple of folks stripping flies with sinking lines who did well on green & black cracklebacks or green & black soft hackles.

Hope to see y'all on the stream the next time I can get down to fish.

I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."

FFF, Sounds like a great trip. Wish I could have stayed all week. Oh, to be retired!

Hope you can make it August 29th and 30th.
