Members bluffboy Posted July 3, 2010 Author Members Posted July 3, 2010 Wow, guys I don't what to say other than thanks for the gesture. Tell you what, take that ten bucks and take a kid fishing. The influence from quality men such as yourselves will go alot further in insuring things like this won't continue to happen. That is money better invested than repairing of few scratches on an old fishing boat. Thanks again , keep catching.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 where is Camper's Point? Did they come in by boat or did they drive in? Campers point is a low point, below the high water line, on the west side of James river arm. You can drive to it and its fairly popular. It generally stays pretty clean so I have little doubt that the trash was the work of one bunch. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
RSBreth Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Good for you, but it is disturbing to see the total lack of responsibility from some people. I fished Bull Creek the other morning and had to stop on the way out to pick up half a bag of crap-o-la left at the slab ford bridge left from weekend idiots. But I expect it, and carry a couple of heavy duty yard bags just for that purpose. Idiots abound. Even Woodstock left behind a huge mess, you'd think the same "Earth Day" folks would pick up their used bong water, but not so much. So I'm not shocked a maroon at The 'Rock left his junk behind. Which is too bad, I suppose.

Good point RSBreth, that's what I never understand when I see litter in a camp ground or public use fishing area. It would seem logical that the type of people who like the outdoors and make use of these places would be the last people to trash it. I am no tree hugger but sometimes it is sobbering to see what dirty, destructive creatures we can be.
mclothier1 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Good for you! sorry to hear about scratching up the boat though. I live near Wichita, and most if not all of our local ponds that are public fishing have a trash problem. In the past I have taken my share out but i've cleaned an area and came back a couple weeks later and it was right back to being a dump. I dont know what's wrong with people, maybe it was the way they were raised? I was raised to pack out what you pack in and then some. Leave the area as clean or cleaner than the way you found it. Signs dont do any good, trash cans are provided but people are too lazy to use them. Someone could organize a clean up but what good would that do. It's a never ending cycle. You would think people would have more respect for public lands. I have seen everything from the usual fishing trash, to old lazy boy's dumped in the ponds, I guess the fish needs structure, but not like that. The local fish and game have tried to clean it up, but nothing is working. Anybody have any success stories or ideas on how to actually change this situation? Its has been so bad that I quit fishing the local ponds.
Quillback Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Early Saturday morning I was taking my sister and nephew to the airport from my mom's house. On the way to my mom's I saw a bleach bottle in the middle of the road on its side leaking something, went a ways further, turned a corner and saw two more in the middle of the road leaking something that had a strong chemical smell to it. I could not stop and check it out as I had to get them to the airport. Anyway came back the same way about an hour later and the bottles were still there in the middle of the road, so I stopped at the firehouse which was only a few hundred yards away and told the fire folks who then said they would go out and check it out and clean it up. Meth chemicals were what I suspect it was and I wasn't going to mess with it considering I don't have a hazmat suit. But here in Bella Vista there's always trash being tossed from cars. local folks are good about going out and cleaning it up, but why is it people feel compelled to toss empty soda cans or styrofoam cups out the window? I guess it takes too much effort to leave them in the vehicle and toss them in the trash when you get home. About 10 years ago I was my dad and I fished SWEPCO, when we pulled out I noticed the trash laying around the boat launch, in the woods, and along the shore where people had bank fishing acccess, I said to my dad that you would think that they would put out a dumpster so people could put there trash in it rather that leaving it on the ground, my dad pointed over to the parking lot and there stood a dumpster. I don't know what you can do when people are too lazy to pick up there empty worm containers and soda cans and drop them in the dumpster on their way back to their car. Another thing I can rant about is people dumping their unwanted pets/puppies/kittens on the side of the road. At least take them to an animal shelter.
