Fishin' Freak Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 My wife and I put in at K-Dock Sunday around 4:30 and trolled the area till 8:30. We used about every crank you can thing of and only managed three nice sized crappies. Each time we hooked a nice crappie we trolled back through the area and then stopped and threw swimming minnows--casting them and jigging them but had no luck. We had hoped to hook a walleye or two or even a white but no such luck. The three crappie will eat nice though. Anyone else having any luck on BS?? There were a ton of boats at the ramp yesterday.
Hunter91 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 My boy and I went today out of Kdock. We trolled some and caught a few small walleyes no keepers and cast swimming minnows some and caught some nice crappie and a few bass on top of that. My boy also caught two 3ft long gar.
crappiefisherman Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 hunter did you se any surfacing fish, where were the crappie? [ [
Dutch Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Are there still any white bass in upper Bull Shoals? I heard that most of them died off a few years ago.
Hunter91 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 We didn't see any whites surfacing. We were looking for any surface activity. Did catch our bass on topwaters and the crappie on dropoffs into the channel.
powerdive Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Dutch, for what it's worth, I caught a 10" white while trolling for walleye at K Dock last week. Didn't see any surface commotion that day, except carp and gar of course.

Members willie Posted June 29, 2006 Members Posted June 29, 2006 3 of us chased walleye from June 17-24th with 58 fish coming to the net. 24 keepers including a 28.5", 7.75lb fish. Early in the week we found them in 18-25'. Later in the week they had moved to 25-33'. All were caught bottom bouncing crawler rigs on main lake points. We were not able to night fish as the eyes bit all day-shallower early and late- deeper under the full sun. This was toward the dark of the moon-i'd like to go back and fish the full moon to see if they are feeding more at night then.
stone9-7=2 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Nice report willie, shame you didn't try one night of fishing light's. Maybe next time. I have comp coming sat to sat were going every other night as i still have to work. Will post when they go home. 9-7=2.
Members willie Posted June 29, 2006 Members Posted June 29, 2006 Stone, We had all the equipment to night fish but no energy after 10 hours of running the trolling motor. The locals down lake like to troll cranks at night instead of fishing crawlers. We tried but without knowing the contours of the deep points they suggested and without a moon it was a lost cause. We learned a lot and are ready to try some leadcore in front of glass raps and reef runners when we go back. They were talking 30-35' channel bend bluffs when the fish go deep. I was lucky enough to fish in the PWT with a pro that won in 1999 at Quachita. He trolled bottom bouncers along deep ledges. First time i ever bottom bounced. I'd like to try that on these deep points that were pointed out to me at BS. From what i remember in 1999 we lost a lot of tackle because he didn't bother go back when he hung one of his 2 rods. He'd just break off and i'd retie him. The one thing that i see bottom bouncing has over lindy rigs and longlining is that you can stay on contour and still cover a lot of territory. At Bull shoals we marked big schools of fish-probably not all walleye when we hooked up. The second time over them, they were gone-real spooky-we did find some to lindy rig around the deep brushpiles but only hooked one which got off when my 10 year old learnee was crankin him in. We are only going down for 3 days. We'll take the night equipment and if trolling doesn't produce we'll give it a shot.
