Flysmallie Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So if you caught some rainbow trout in the James River, where would you think they came from? My daughter caught 4 from one location on Sunday. All of them put up a great fight and had lots of energy.
Trout Commander Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 pics or it didn't happen. or you can tell me where they were caught and I will believe you either way I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

smallmouthjoe Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 What section of The James? PM me if you don't want to post it. Really intersted in where they could have come from.
RSBreth Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Crane Creek flows into the James, and Crane has Rainbows in it. No big mystery. (Or secret, for that matter.) I've caught 'Bows on Rapala-type stickbaits in the pool directly where it flows in in Winter a couple of times.
Members MoJohn Posted July 13, 2010 Members Posted July 13, 2010 I've caught a few over the years while floating the James and drifting a small spoon. Usually in the late fall just below where Crane Creek dumps in. I believe the little creek just below there is Wheeler Creek (or what my grandfather calls it) about 3/4 miles down stream. Caught one just below Kerr Access in one of the deeper holes trying for smb. Spelling and puntuation error provided free of charge
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Roaring River flows into the James arm and a few are caught around it in the winter. Who knows where they go in the summer. Seems like there is a Rainbow hatchery somewhere east of the James, if so I suppose they could lose a few. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members smallmouth man Posted July 13, 2010 Members Posted July 13, 2010 I caught a rainbow in the james 2 years ago just below Battlefield, MO and Missouri smallmouth record holder, Kevin Clingin, has caught some trout on table rock lake before. They probably come from roaring river and crane creek. Smallmouth Man

But yeah, there are a couple or so creeks that have trout that empty into the James.
