We floated from Alley to two rivers. Got on the river at about 11. Fishing above Eminence was really good. On the first cast of the day, I landed a monster 19 inch smallie. It was fat and thick like a largemouth. It was just barely smaller than the business end of a canoe paddle. Caught several more fish in the 12 to 15 inch range and a bunch of small (but still fun ones). By the time we got about a two miles below Eminence a storm was coming in so we put fishing aside a started hauling down river. Had to stop to help two kids pull a canoe that was sunk into a log jam. It took six of us to get it out. Lucky for them because we were the last group on the river otherwise they we sleeping outside. Overall a good trip. Still wish we could of fished the second half a bit more though.

Sounds like a good trip. We head down for 4 days at end of the month. I just picked up some Arkie soft plastic crawdads hoping to tear up myself!

We caught all of ours on Strike King Bitsy Tubes with 1/8oz crappie jigs shoved up the bottom. That's about all we ever use there.

thanks for the tip . I will pick some up from bass pro. Im a novice fisherman at best I also plan to float the current river(trout) one day during are stay in eminence. Will my ultra light with 4lb test work on jacks fork(small mouth) or will i need to bring my bass rod with 12lb ttest? Will be taking a raft from alley spings to eminece with kids so plan is pulling over alot let them play and wade and fish. What would be a good float on current to catch some trout and what would the regulations be on keeping them I do have my trout permit.

Yeah, I would. Any smallie over 13-14 inches is gonna be a tough time on 4 pound test, and those are the ones you're after anyway. Not saying you can't do it, but they're gonna break you off more times than not. You could even use 8 or 10 pound test, but 4 is just too light. You could have some fun with that UL and some goggle eye, though.

I personally think 6lb test is the best for the Jacks Fork. 12lb would probably be too heavy for the crystal clear water, and it would make throwing smaller lures a challenge. I would either get some 6lb vanish or 6lb P-Line Premium CX in green which has the diameter of 4lb line. And you want those Bitsy tubes in mustard, brown and chartreuse, or similar colors.

Oh, okay Cricket. And what do you do when they head right back into the rootwad they came from? Curse and slap the water with your lil' limp noodle uglystick, that's what. Get yourself a proper smallie setup boy, so when you hook that 20 incher you'll actually get to hold it.

Boy? BOY!?!

Oh, okay then.. Since ya put it that way.. Jason, ignore my advice and take the advice of the city slicker.. Matter of fact I say step it up to a 17 lb test on a medium action rod, take ya some 10 inch purple worms.. Don't forget your net!

As long as you remember that smallies are the best tasting bass... What's the daily limit down on those two rivers, anyway?
