FlyFishinFool Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 About 2 weeks ago I posted the following thread under a different thread title in a general conversation with folks: "Yeah - I guess the days of being able to leave anything in your vehicle (even when locked) are over at the BSSP and probably other campgrounds as well. I got down to BSSP early Monday (6/28) morning, and went into the store to buy a tag shortly after 5:30am; when I came out someone had broken into the back of my truck (with a camper shell on it) and stole a TFO Pro 9' 5wt rod and Bass Pro rod tube, a very good Tilleys fishing hat and some other miscellaneous stuff - basically anything at the tail end of the truck bed. This was your basic smash and grab, and take what ever is easy to steal and run! And probably the worst part was I missed about an hour of fishing while I had to wait a while to make connections with the sheriff to file a report! I eventually went fishing and met up with the sheriff later that morning. Repair estimates on the truck damage will have to wait until next week." I originally thought one post was enough but since then I had a friend tell me that they also had some gear stolen out of a pickup truck while down at BSSP about a week ago. My friend had a couple of inexpensive spin-cast rods & reels taken out of the un-covered back of his pickup truck while it was parked in the big parking lot across the road from the Park store. The cost of the stolen gear was pretty low, but his kids disappointment was a bigger loss; not to mention the inconvinience of having to go buy 2 new rods/reels before his kids could go fishing again. When I asked, he said he did not file a theft report, since the rods were basically pretty cheap. Since there seems to be a ongoing issue with thefts around the Park store, I have decided to re-post my original comments. Note that my friends gear was stolen out of an open pickup truck bed, while my gear was stolen from a covered/locked truck bed that was parked right in front of the Park store at 5:35am in the morning! I guess the days of leaving ANYTHING in an open vehicle have come to the end; and also leaving anything visible in a locked vehicle! Everyone needs to lock up their gear (hopefully out of sight) and lock their vehicles all the time, and just maybe these low-lifes will move on to some other location where the pickings are easier! * ´¯`•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((((º> `•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((º> .¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((((º> I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."
dave potts Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 A sad state of affairs for sure. I'm amazed that noone noticed your pick-up being broken into right in front of the park store. You would have thought there were other people around the area. Dave
FishinCricket Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Thieves have been hitting Lebanon pretty hard too.. Windows of cars being smashed at motels, local businesses being broken into... Sorry to hear of your losses... cricket.c21.com
Flysmallie Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Well I thought old paranoid fishinwrench said there were security cameras everywhere up there. Surely they have this on video?
Guest P. owensby Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Sounds like we need to apply Turkish style law when it comes to theft, hard to boost items with no hands!!!!
Paola Cat Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Well I thought old paranoid fishinwrench said there were security cameras everywhere up there. Surely they have this on video? My thoughts exactly Ronnie. Maybe they ought to point those video cameras on the parking lots instead of the fisherman on the stream. Cheers. PC
rcguy Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 My thoughts exactly Ronnie. Maybe they ought to point those video cameras on the parking lots instead of the fisherman on the stream. I heard that. Man, this makes me sick. Bennett is where we go to get away from that crap.
NoLuck Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I'd be darn near willing to bet a paycheck that there are a group of local punks doing this stuff. I tend to sit in my truck and nap on occasion and if I ever see these punks they will not be doing it anymore. I can only think of a few things that get my blood boiling more than thieves. Go to town to a local pawn shop and I would be willing to bet you will find some of this stuff being sold. I have worked hard for the things I have and I expect others to do the same. The only way these scum are going to be caught is by everyone being vigilant and keep an eye out for them.

If you've filed a police report the police can even get your stuff back for you.. Anybody interested in my checking out the pawn shops, just PM or post a description of the items... cricket.c21.com
