Hitting a deer is bad enough but Elk are BIGGER ! They have plenty of elk down here in AR by the Buffalo River, but it's seldom that I ever see them. You are definitely more likely to see and hit a deer than an elk. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
zander Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I am happy they finally got off their rumps and did something. Even as a little kid, I could almost "see" elk grazing around on the balds around here.
Members catfish Posted July 18, 2010 Members Posted July 18, 2010 Every few months we have an Elk run over on Highway 65 South of the Buffalo River. They are in the fields between Bear Creek and Holder Creek grazing most every morning. This is the old race track area if anyone is familiar with Highway 65 South. (Searcy County, AR)
KCRIVERRAT Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Seems like they're always congregated in the big field south of the highway just east of Boxley early or late during the summer. At least that's what my wife and I experienced... HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Outside Bend Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I don't think vehicle encounters would be a huge issue- even out west, hitting an elk is a fairly rare occurrence (aside from places like Yellowstone, where elk are plentiful and tourists are brainless). I am wondering about the potential damage the animals can do, particularly during their fall rut. I'm not sure if MDC or anyone would be liable to damage done by elk. <{{{><

I'm sure the MDC would tell you that Helen Wate is their "Damage Claims Co-ordinator" and that if you have a damage claim, go to Helen Wate. Coldspring Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Peck Ranch is a pretty interesting place. It's neat to watch the ecological restoration over the years, they are converting much of it to savannah and some glades. The 200+ mile Ozark Trail hiking trail goes right through the middle of Peck, and they close it during some hunting seasons. I'm always worried that one of the MDC biologists will go on a bent and close the trail off for good, and I sure don't want to have to help build 15 miles of new trail just to get around Peck. Seems like it would be a fine place for Elk to live, just hope there aren't more closures over them.
Gavin Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 No objections here....It would be neat to see wild elk in Missouri.
