Any one know any areas to catch catfish. I am on Indian Point and have only bass fished . I have a 8 year old who is fascinated with catching catfish(from private ponds) and wants to fish the lake. I saw on some map that there were catfish over by river rock marina. Any advice would be appreciated. I have bass boat and get around the lake.

Several years ago I noticed a ton of fish hanging around the steep drop off just down from the mouth of Aunts Creek, where the danger markers are. We were bass fishing at the time so we went back at dusk. We set up on the flat about 30yards from the drop off. We ended up catching 10 channel cats between the 2 and 8 pound range. I don't know if you want to run that far with an 8 year old, but there should be other places on the lake that are similar.

Table Rock is full of flathead, especially in the clearer sections of the lake like Indian Point and the dam area. Try fishing around some brushpiles that MDC has put out. There's a lot of Christmas trees in the Indian Point area that the flathead love. They're also pretty fond of the stumps up there. http://newmdcgis.mdc.mo.gov/tablerock/

I've caught channel catfish right out from the launch ramp at Bridgeport, all along there below the bridge where the channel drops off from the flat. I'd just get in the edge of the channel in 25-35 feet of water and drift a nightcrawler along the bottom below a good-size splitshot sinker. When you find eating size channel cats there, you'll usually find a bunch of them in the same spot. I've caught a few flatheads around there also, but they're more around the rocky bluffs and flooded trees.

That's worked for me all along that area, down to Virgin Bluff and up to where Flat Creek runs into James.

The catfish are just about everywhere. I have caught them on topwater at night and off the side of shallow points. I would look for small pockets off the main lake during the day and the side of points during the evening.

I use cut up shad as my bait. Attached is a photo of a cat that I caught from shore in the Mill Creek Campground about a month ago. I was about 50 yards from the main point of the campground and it was early evening.

Good luck!

mr. cooper, we have a lake home off of hwy dd woodland hill , just above indian point, we catch flatheads on bluegills just off the rock ledges and around tree stumps, the biggest one was 46# and also caught a lot of 5# to 15#, we put them on alive hooked in front of their top fin, trot line and rod and reel fishing, most of these fish we caught between 6:30 am and 10:00 am, we are in the cove where castle wood park is, so we are real close to indian point, we can see indian point from our dock, stay out of the coves as you will catch a lot of turtles, "" we found this out real quick '' hope you enjoy this info. and catch some fish ! [ hwy dd is in branson west ]

We have caught quite a few during the summer incidental to bass and bluegill fishing dragging crawlers on main lake pints on the lower end. Usually 25-35 ft. All channel cats...Usually big ones 5-10#. They'll eat a jigging spoon too oddly enough.
