awhuber Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Had a great float Saturday With the wife and another couple. The girls did most of the fishing, both are fairly new at fishing. My wife caught 1 trout about 14" Not far from greer. I had several bites but could not hook any up. Spent most of our stops on the upper part rescueing canoes and gear from one party of goofs. The wife caught another trout above Little Hurricane creek got a pic and it wiggled off. She was very excited. Got pulled over by a couple of Oregon Counties finest at the creek mouth. after a lic. check we fished that hole for a while without any luck. The law dogs motored off for greener pastures up stream. The officers passed us at least 6 more times, slowing down and waking us each time (whats up with that?) Anyway great trip lots of jet boats near Whitten. We got in early set up our chairs and enjoyed the show. We ate at Benita's in Alton on Fri. nite. The food was pretty good, I could live on the fancy fries(portabella mushrooms).
Gavin Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Sounds like fun and thanks for the report. My wife and another couple ran into a similar situation on a float from Greer to Whitten a couple years ago...LEO's from Oregon County, MDC, and the Forest Service were running up and down river in jets all weekend and writing lots of tickets.. It's nice to see presence on the river, but it would be nice if they could figure out a way to patrol without creating such a nuisance. Cheers.
awhuber Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 There were at least a dozen boats of locals down stream and we had zero problems with them. Let me add that we floated with Elevenpoint canoe rental and was very satisfied. They had wennies that are similar to my disco 69s and in good shape. Saw Ryan out in the drift boat, I will have to give that a try sometime.

Members rgriff49 Posted July 28, 2010 Members Posted July 28, 2010 Thanks for the kind words regarding our outfitter! Glad you all had a good time and we hope to see you down again. I am also glad that I got you flagged down outside of Winona so that you didn't lose a cooler on the highway 19 roller coaster! Ryan

jdmidwest Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I really don't understand why they seem to like waking canoeist all of the time. I have had the same problem in the past, even with an MDC agent. One time, we were the only boat on the river fishing and not drinking and we were harassed by both local pd and MDC. That is why I stay clear of that river on Sat. in the summer, too many hassles.
