ozark trout fisher Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I was planning a North Fork trip, but for various reasons I can't make it down that far. So it's the Current instead. I'm planning on running the Baptist to Akers stretch in two days. Given the fact that I'm going to try like hell to get a couple of days off next week to avoid the weekend crowds, how much traffic can I expect to run into? Also, with the water being as low as it is, will that be a reasonable distance for a float fishing trip? I know I'll have to drag a lot towards the upper end, but I don't mind that at all.
10pointer Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I was on the current yesterday (thursday) from the end of the park on down to tanvat and we had 2 big groups float by on innertubes. Thats usually not a spot you will see people float as much, but ive been down baptist way and below and its a pretty steady stream of canoes even during the week. It gets pretty aggravating but cant really help it i guess. The thing that bothers me is that people seem to have to act like idiots and cant just float by.... they seem like they want to scare every darn fish outta there with jumping in and goin wild. When i float and i pass people that are fishing i have respect and slip by with as little disturbance as possible. But thats just me. Its still worth the trip for sure but just be prepared to see quite a few floaters.
jdmidwest Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I was on Akers to Pulltite 2 weeks ago Monday and they were tossing in floaters as fast as they could unload canoes. Akers parking lot was 2/3 full. It was a nice float, but crowded. I await the kids going back to school. The next 3 weeks are some of the busiest camping weeks of the season outside of the 3 summer holidays. Everyone is getting the vacation in before the kids go back. Gavin Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Too much river....do Baptist to Parker(0r Cedargove) and take your time..Shouldht be as much float traffic, and if there is you can wait it out......Early and late are your best bets for a shot at a big one(24" or above), pick a prime spot and hit it when its good...Plenty of dinks willing eat mid-day......Cheers.
ozark trout fisher Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks. If it's gonna be crowded we'll probably go somewhere else. Big Piney most likely.
ozark trout fisher Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 I think we will do the Big Piney instead. We'll run from Slabtown to Ross- a float that I'd planned early on this summer but got flooded out.
