straw hat Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Put in at CC and fished from 8:30 AM to 6 PM. Only fished two brush piles, both on main lake points. The water color was slightly better and the foul odor had disappeared since we were there 3 weeks ago. The crappie were 7 to 15 feet deep (most around 10') and you had to scrape the top of the brush pile to get a bite. We had 10 dozen minnows and used all of them. Must of caught 60 fish +/-. About half of the fish were white crappie. That is a big improvement over the last few weeks. We came home with 16 keepers and two nice cats. The weather was not as hot as some of the days lately and with only a few boats around it was a pleasant quite day.
Members hogbob Posted August 1, 2010 Members Posted August 1, 2010 What a dedicated fisherman! 9 hours in 90 plus heat, Kudos to you straw hat,
straw hat Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 Thanks hogbob. To tell the truth the wife is the dedicated one. I have never seen anyone more focused when fishing. The rest of the world doesn't exist! Too serious for me. There was a slight breeze all day that really helped and a front moved through around 10 AM. The temperature didn't change but the wind shifted out of the north and the humidity really dropped. Instead of coming home well done we were only medium rare.

Kwall, I fished that area below CC for Walleye last week. Got skunked too. Eyeman said we should fish on the North end of the lake if we wont to catch walleye this time of year. That man really knows his stuff. I cant wait till he makes it back down. I need help BIGGGGG TIMMMMMME. I get skunked every time I go. (I definitely got the LINE WRAPPING TECHNIQUE DOWN )
Predator1 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Straw Hat...Way to go. I was in Branson this weekend getting skunked by my 12 year old nephew. ............Nephew..(8 Rainbows)......Uncle Charles...(0)...We sat in on a Crappie Seminar last week at bass pro. Do you use Power-bait Sparkle Nibbles on your Crappie Jigs?

Do you use Power-bait Sparkle Nibbles on your Crappie Jigs? Predator 1; I have heard good things about them but have never used them. As you know I am a dedicated minnow man but keep a fair selection of jigs in the boat in case the fishing is hot and I run out of minnows. Never tried the nibbles though.
packersooner Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Glad you all got em Straw Hat. Perhaps the tide is beginning to turn. I think I have learned my lesson with NOT taking minnows. You all be careful out there this week in that heat. Hottest week of the year so far. Take care, Jason
Members Zac Seale Posted August 2, 2010 Members Posted August 2, 2010 I love the crappie nibbles. If i am fishing jigs and things are slow i will put a pink one one the jig hook and it will usually get me some good crappie. My favorite setup is a lime roadrunner 1/8 oz with a pink crappie nibble.
Hunter91 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I am a real believer in the "magic bait" I always have crappie nibblets in the boat. I think they really make a difference when the bite is tough. Other times when they are real active, I don't think it matters as much.
