I know I want floating line aswell.....just looking for some info from you guys on what lines you like and why. TrIzzout
eric1978 Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I have the exact same setup...5wt Launch with a Lamson Konic. I use WF5F Rio Gold, and it works fine for me. I'm a novice fly-fisherman, though, so take that with a grain of salt.
Terry Beeson Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 In my opinion you have two choices... RIO Gold or SA GPX. I think you'll find the statistics you are about to receive will agree with my predictions... I think you'll find the statistics you are about to receive will agree with my predictions... I use Scientific Anglers GPX lines on my 5 wt. The GPX line is a kind of an all around line. There are other lines in the SA lineup with more specifications. For a beginner though, the GPX is usually recommended. If you can get two lines, I'd also pick up a sink tip that will get down to the bottom of the waters you usually fish. A sink tip takes a little more practice to use since it's not lying on the surface, you have to pick it up from down in the water column. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
trizkid Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 thanks guys ya i have currently been using SA mastery headstart line.....looking for something not so beginner TrIzzout
stlfisher Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I use SA trout taper line. It is a little more gentle in turning over the fly. It took a little bit for me to get used to ,but I pretty happy with it.
Gavin Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Anything from SA or Rio should work...I'm kinda partial to the SA Epert Distance lines...but the GPX, or Rio Gold should work fine too.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Look up Hook and Hackle's fly lines. They should be around $35 and they are just over-runs of current S/A lines. Perhaps the color is a bit off.. but it still has all the expensive atributes of a full priced premium line. Its just not full price. Link = http://store.hookhack.com/Fly-Lines/departments/55/ Sometimes they have closeouts for $25... of which I have bought several and been very pleased.
