I have found a mid - 90's Champion River Jon for sale. Was just wondering if anybody knew anything about these boats or had any expereince with them. It seems to be a nice boat but looks can be deceiving. I know they have not made them the last couple of years and I think Champion was bought by Stratos. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I've owned a couple of Champion river boats over the years. I owned the 6th boat produced for a while even. These boats are just fine for trout fishing. Most are just a little over 20 ft and usually 42 inches wide in the bottom. The only thing I have found wrong with them is the dry storage, which isn't really dry. The lids on most are recessed and plastic--the rubber gasket is supposed to make them waterproof, but the boats I had were not--they leaked. If you will tarp it down or garage it- the boat will be ok. I would buy another one if I had the chance--not bad boats at all. They quit making them in the mid 90's I think. Hope this helps--I would say buy it if you want a good trout boat.

I have a 96 that I have been running for several years. As Bomberman said the compartments leak. I keep mine in the shed plus have a tarp. I do not leave anything that would ruin in the compartments when out, and carry a large sponge to get the water out. It is an excellent boat to fish out of. Everyone I have talked with who has sold theirs wishes they had it back. I did price mine with a 20 merc jet for 4500 last spring as I have too many boats (6) my wife was relived when the guy did not buy as the Champion is her favorite. Not sure where you live but if you do buy you will want to take a copy of the bill of sale to your county assessors office as they will try to asses you on a campion bass boat as the river jon is not listed. If you do not buy let me know I know a guy looking for one if the price is right.

Guess what? It was a mistake, but not a bad one. The boat is actually a 1988 Shawnee with 3 seats and a 9.9 or 15 Hp Mercury(It doesnt have any stickers or tag on it, so I cant tell, but it looks to be an early to mid 90s model). It also has a White River Trailer, Inc. trailer with 15 inch white spoke wheels. Trailer is very good. This boat is not the wide one, but it is in good shape and these boats will last forever--Shawnee's are very well built and made to take a licking. Motor is electric start too, which is kinda rare. It starts right up and the skeg and prop are in great shape. This would be an awsome Buffalo river boat. $1,650 is the price and if you are interested call me at 870-291-5950.
