budman Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I am thinking of floating from Buffalo Point to the White River in late September. I have never been on this section and I am looking for some help. I know there is limited to no access to this area and we plan on going light weight. Are there many places to camp, safely in case the river comes up fast. How and where do we take out on the White. Also does anyone know of someone who can take my truck to the take out point, so we don't have to drive two trucks. I usually go in May and have floated most of the middle but have never been past Buffalo Point. Our plan is to camp at Buffalo over night and float for three days, is this possible, and still get some fishing in. Any information would be great.
gotmuddy Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Rush to the white river is 26 miles. I dont know how far it is from buffalo point to Rush so maybe someone else can help out. Rush is the last put in place that is easily accessible. The only places to camp are on sand bars, however the sand bars will keep you high and dry unless something seriously bad happens. Hopefully we will get some rain between now and then or you will be in for ALOT of paddling. As far as shuttling services, there is a canoe rental place across the road from the Rush turnoff and last year I believe they said it was $60 for a shuttle to shipps ferry. If the white is low enough and you paddle hard you can go across to the island at the mouth and then over to Riley's station, they will tow you up river or give you a ride to get your truck for a fee. www.rileysstation.com everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
bobber Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 that would be buffalo float service. and Arron is a good guy.. that price seems cheap! but,i would go down stream on the white to shipps ferry. rather than hope i could fight the current, and paddle the mile and a half up stream at the end of a big trip... <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*

Wayne SW/MO Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 We put in at Rush and took out at Riley's Station. on the White, across from the mouth of the Buffalo. This worked well for us, we went to the station and picked up the owner who then went with us to Rush, after unloading he took our vehicle back to the Station where it was nice and safe. You may have to do some walking, we did in July a few years back. There are lots of gravel bars for camping and a thunderstorm on one of the days had no noticeable effect on the river. I would think that if there is no heavy front predicted in the long range forecast for the watershed you wouldn't have anything to worry about. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
