eric1978 Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Well Eric, you brought it here though. If you have such contempt and distrust for Fox, maybe you shouldn't quote them. And maybe don't try to steer us into THAT stuff. But, to the original point: your speculation is not based on any first-hand knowledge or fact, and potentially hurtful. Smallie's too. Al already mentioned he was an acquaintance of one of the victims. So, maybe they're not just nameless, faceless, careless, stupid drunks. And even if they were, I think it's poor form to trash them. It wasn't my intention to be insensitive, so if it came off that way, my apologies. I see no reason why a local FOX affiliate would make up a claim like the victim couldn't swim...that doesn't mean the reporting was necessarily accurate, as Wrench proved two posts ago. I wouldn't have mentioned it if I was given the information by some random person, but since I only repeated what was reported by a "legitimate" news source, I'm only as guilty as they are for being insensitive. It is news, after all. Sometimes the details of a story are ironically unfortunate...does that mean they shouldn't be told?

Not really looking for an answer -- just wanted to make a point. When you speculate, or repeat things, think ahead of your enter key a little. Look at the stuff that's sitting in Phil's forum now, for all to see. Even the smallest of comments can turn a conversation to the ugly -- like it did here. Sometimes it's just best to let one pass on by. John
eric1978 Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 ...and your "some combination of alcohol..." etc? I wasn't the first one to mention alcohol, but I added it to the list of possibilities of what could have happened to the kayaker. I later stated it was pointless to speculate. Sidenote: I don't think the involvement of alcohol would necessarily reflect that poorly on the floater. So what if he had a few drinks on the river? Most people do, including me. If he was falling over plastered that would have been another story...anyway, the point is, it's not like anyone was accusing him of being a crackhead. I haven't said anything disparaging about either one of these poor guys. You should pick a fight with someone who has.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Honestly, Smalliebigs and fly-flinger, if that's really your opinion I sure as hell don't want to hear about it. Simply put, it sounds pretty heartless.

Simply put, it sounds pretty heartless. You know what...I apologize for my comments. I shouldn't have speculated that there was drinking involved or any stupid thing happening. There is no limit to what a man can do or how far he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit
