Put in at Lead Mine yesterday an planned to jet up to Blue Spring and float back. We got about a mile and ran into a spot with a big tree down. Ended up stuck on the tree and after 30 min of getting oursleves loose in the heavy current we had to pull of and clean out the jet pump. The short strech we got to fish produced a few smallies and lots of goggle eye. All on bitsy bugs. Has anyone ever taken a chain saw and tried to clear log jams themselves?

I've never taken the chainsaw, but ocassionally I'll carry a bow saw if I'm floating a stretch that is rarely floated and I think I might encounter some problems. I can count on one hand the times I've actually used it, but it has come in handy.

My chainsaw is too expensive to risk losing, otherwise I might consider it, depending on the float...especially an extended trip where it might be nice to have for firewood, too.

Yes, I have chainsawed numerous times. Did you put in at the "ramp" or at the lower gravel area? I just ran my jet up there less than a month ago (put in at the ramp) and didn't have any major problems. When I floated in the paddle jon two weeks ago someone had just went through and chain Sawed a bunch of stuff, wonder if some of that came loose and clogged up.... I was actually thinking about making that run in the jet labor day weekend, please let me know which area you put in at.

Yeah I put in at the ramp then headed up. About I'd say a mile up there is a gravel bar on right and mud bank on left right before the nice shady stretch. If you go left of the tree the water is so low that there is only about an inch over the log that is across the water. If you go right then you only have about a 1/2 inch of water to run. I made it over the log but it was rough as hell and on the way back the current pushed me into the limbs. I guess I should have started the motor and tried to run fast across it coming back down but the turn is so quick and narrow I didn't think it was a good idea. Hell I don't think there is any good way except cut it out or wait until there's enough water to take the other side across the gravel. Maybe I'm just not good enough with a jet but when my boat whacks the log hard enough to jar my motor I'm not gonna go that route again!
