Mark
Planning first trip to North Fork. Plan on floating Patrick Bridge to Norfolk. Is there any other access points along this stretch? We would prefer cheap lodging - hotel or cheap cabin. Is there anything within 1/2 hour of this section. We would not be willing to pay $100 per night. IF NOT, we will bring camping gear. Is camping on gravel bars in this stretch permitted? First time trip on the North Fork. Any advice, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mark
Justin Spencer
You might try Pettit's canoe rental, all of our sleeper cabins are taken. Camping on gravel bars would all be on private property in this section. Camping here is $8 per person per night and you could put in here (2 miles upstream of Patrick). Free camping at Patrick (bring hillbilly repellent), camping also at Tecumseh I think (norfork lake, no such thing as Norfolk). Look at last few topics to see what's working. Gavin
I'd avoid the hassle and stay at Justin's place for $8 a night. Spend the difference on some camp gear if you need some......You could put in at Hammond and camp on the FS land, but its mostly private land bordering the trout water. Best trout floats...Kelly to Justin's place...or Justin's place down to James Bridge....Ugly water between James and Dawt, and a mill dam to portage before you get to lake Norfork. Cheers. This late in the game, I'd echo Gavin's advice and stay at Sunburst. Excellent folks, and more than accomodating. Though if you're looking for an authentic Ozark cultural experience, Patrick's Bridge on Labor Day weekend probably isn't a bad place to be <{{{><
gotmuddy
Free camping at Patrick (bring hillbilly repellent), camping also at Tecumseh I think (norfork lake, no such thing as Norfolk). Patrick is close enough to Caulfield for me to say that Busch is the preferred repellent for hillbillies. It is safer to become one than not. You will be in for a tough weekend of fishing, labor day weekend will mean TONS of tourists. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you. Justin Spencer
Really pretty light weekend on the river, all outfitters reporting a slow weekend. Holidays on the NFoW are much less than normal summer weekends. This river is not the big party river like the Niangua, Elk or Current, we mostly have the "grown up" partiers that have outgrown the true party rivers. That being said, there is still plenty of drunk stupidity happening on this river every weekend, just a little less than some of the rivers closer to the big cities. Mark
Thanks all -we decided to forgo the crowds and fish private lakes locally. But info was useful and we'll save for future reference.
