With several google searches, and a quick look at all the bills signed into law in 2009 and 2010, if it was not a gos "kicker" motor, there is a Water Patrol officer that needs to be reported to the State Highway Patrol. Unless this was well hidden in some other legislation, there is no sign of such a change. The fella's story about it going into effect 6 months ago is also suspect. Gasoline motors of any size were never exempted. If such a change was made it would have been well reported in publications, and outdoor radio and TV shows. I call BS on this one! One quick call to the DMV will answer any question.

Any body know if this is the case also in Arkansas. I talked to a guy last week and he said he got a ticket in crooked creek for having an electric trolling motor mounted to his canoe and it not being registered. I always thought if it is electric then you don't have to register it.

Thanks.

Probably didn't have the canoe registered. Even an electric motor qualifies a canoe as being a "motor boat."

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

That is what I was thinking also. The boat has to be registered, with the numbers on it and all, if it has any kind of motor on it...Including trolling motors. If there is no motor on the boat, then it does not have to be registered.

Yes, I do realize that this is an old post.
