laker67 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I took a short trip to bssp this afternoon. I parked at the lower end of zone 2, and I was gearing up, I noticed an honest to goodness game warden vehicle viewing the activities of the stream. He was zeroed in on some bait fishermen that were located about 150 feet upstream of the whistle bridge. As I was on my way to the creek, he was confronting the individuals, but I didn't stick around to witness the results for fear that he might smell the powerbait on my flies. It was good to see him out and about.

Members JONBOY Posted September 7, 2010 Members Posted September 7, 2010 I am glad to here that they are out doign there jobs of catching people breaking the law. If they would patrol the water more often, I am guessing that there would be a lot of people caught and fined. With the extra money they could use it on the parks to help improve them. ....at least thats my 2 cents. Novice Fly fisher.
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I've fished there for a lot of decades and I've seen them twice, but they were undercover both times. I imagine they have been there many times when I simply didn't notice or wasn't in the area. I've often wished that I could contact one quickly also, but that's not likely. I witnessed a pair of them nail 4 Asians who were catching 3 or 4 and then taking them to the car. They waited until they quit and were at their trunk unloading their gear. I had noticed one of the agents, or thought I did, and I suspected it was the group that I was parked next too that he was watching because I had noticed them going to the car and coming back with emptied stringers. I don't know where the other agent was, I never noticed him. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members JONBOY Posted September 7, 2010 Members Posted September 7, 2010 That is true, they could be there more often than what we think... we just never see them. They are like ninja's! I just don't like when I am walking down the stream and you see people doing things they are not suppose to be doing. I wish i could just walk up to them flash a badge and say you've been cuaght... then jsut walk away to scare them. Novice Fly fisher.

Several times, in the past few years, I have gone to the hatchery office in search of a GW. I was always told that none were in the park, but they could contact one and report the violation. Years ago, Jim Meyer and Ron Mccullough could enforce the game laws. Apparently hatchery employees no longer have that authority. It may be that the park ranger can, but I am not sure of that.
Paola Cat Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Years ago (like 30) .... on an opening day .... I was confronted by an undercover agent who had been observing me in Zone 1. It was one of those days I couldn't keep the fish off of my line (doesn't happen very often ). After he observed me catching fish on every cast .... he came up to me and inspected my fly pattern and actually smelled it (I guess for signs of bait odor). I haven't seen an agent since. Cheers. PC
Members lovetofish Posted September 21, 2010 Members Posted September 21, 2010 Nice to hear they are watching!!! In 2007 and 2009 there was a young park ranger that would walk the spring and check on the fishing and limits. Since he left there is now a old ranger that does nothing. Why can't they keep rangers that do something. i saw this young guy write a few tickets.
