Members sublimez Posted September 7, 2010 Members Posted September 7, 2010 Has anybody fished there recently? Been kicking around the idea of calling about a membership out there, but I haven't fished there since I was a kid and was curious if it was worth it, what kind of fish are stocked there, etc. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
Bird Watcher Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 The Conservation Dept. came and surveyed that lake 2 springs ago. I guess it's a service they offer to privately held waters? Anyway, two of the biologists bought memberships when they were finished with the survey. Apparently it was one of the top private impoundments they had seen as far as the quality and quantity of the fish population.
ollie Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I've always heard the fishing is top-notch there IF you want to flop out the cash for the membership. A little to steep for me from what I heard. wily Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 the ramp sucks -- all the structures and maintenance for that matter. the fishing was good 5 or 6 years ago -- and has progressively gotten worse -- this is the first year in 5 or 6 years that i haven't gotten a membership. the lake is too shallow in my opinion but if you want some place to go close -- it's an option. a lot of stunted crappie -- very few large one's and as soon as they are caught they are kept by other members. bass and catfish fishing is decent in my opinion -- lamar lake is a much better bass fishing lake -- but it is 45 minutes away. if you decide to get a membership -- let me know -- i've got a jon boat that i used out there that i would let go cheap...
ollie Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Really Wily? You might by right I just thought it was still a decent place to fish, but it sounds like you know the skinny on this one. wily Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 ya, i say save your money...we're in for the clean-up by the way.
ollie Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Good, are you bringing the kids? Remember Nov. 6th on a Saturday afternoon. Bring a rod cause it should be good fishing. Members sublimez Posted October 27, 2010 Author Members Posted October 27, 2010 Thanks for all the input guys. I'm just looking for something close here in Joplin that I can access pretty easy. I've tried down by the falls and close by areas of shoal creek with no luck, and Kellog Lake in Carthage with no luck either.. kinda bummed that I can't find anything closer than Bushwhacker Lake where I've actually done decent. All I have is a 14 Foot Flat bottom so I'm somewhat limited.
wily Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 a friend of mine fishes spring river at riverton a lot -- they even have jackpot tournaments over there (thursday nights i think) during the summer...i don't go unless i'm with him for fear of tearing something up...the water is shallow and you kind of need to know where you're going. or if you don't mind gravel roads...try bone creek north of arma even after these...i still think lamar is the best option.
