[....... Maybe you need to slip over to the Ruark Bluff Area of Stockton lake and check out our tackle selection and service. My wife spends an enormous amount of time and effort to get good deals on tackle to pass along to our customers. Most of the time she beats Wal-Mart's prices substantially. As far as the small town attitudes, I hope you find a pleasant atmosphere as Son Sac Marine.]

Thanks, Bill. I have personally launched only as far south as Mutton Creek. We have a home on the north side of Stockton. Slooooowly working our way around the lake with the boat although we've driven by car around the lake several times. Hopefully we'll be able to try your spot soon. We'll be down in October (we live just south of Omaha, Stockton is our home away from home)and if time permits we'll stop in.

I have to give it to Billy's wife, she has done a decent job getting tackle together this year. I told her some stuff that would help, but now we all need to use it and see what else they are willing to do.

Son Sac now serves pizza, breakfast, and a decent line of tackle. But use it to your advantage. if you see something that would sale good but they don

t have it, then tell her and she will order if possible.

I would have to say that on the south side son sac is the only tackle place to go. State park has a little tackle wworth checking out, but town of stockton lake stockton mini mart will also order stuff for you . She has stuff instock and is willing to stockt up on needed stuff. Just let her know.

Give them all a chance, and it would be nice to have a good tackle store close. It's coming, but where is the question. My guess is either son sac or the mini mart pulls it off. They both show the best so far.

Good luck

I'm sorry I forgot to mention you Bill. I just don't get over to that side too often either. Guys, not only does Son Sac Marine do a great job on boat repairs, they they can definitely hook you up on tackle too. I remember one time earlier this year we were looking for a good place to buy minnows on our way to CC. We stopped at the place in Everton and they were selling all DEAD minnows. We went to the Greenfield and they were pretty much sold out. As a last resort that time, we went on up to Son Sac. We got there apparently right after they closed, Bill and his wife were in their car pulling out of the parking lot. They were actually willing to stop, open the store back up, and get all the minnows and snacks that we needed. I've never seen another store take care of us that way before. I just wish they were on the SE side of the lake. They'd get a lot more business from me.

That's what I,m talkin' bout!! I love this board. If you want to know something all you have to do is post it.

This morning, I was wondering if the lake area got much rain. Straw Hat posted early about the amount and likely resulting conditions. My wife and I are at Orleans Landing this week end to fish-- helped a bunch. Thanks, Straw Hat.

kwall posted about a place for his RV-- wtrdog responds with a site, price, and terms.

Best of all, I learned that if wanted and/or needed, I can get my boat worked on, or buy tackle from local people trying to make a living, instead of overloading myself with tools, etc. when I want to be there and fishing.

I have only been fishing Stockton for a little over a year- my experiences have been nothing but good. I have probably spent a dozen nights at Orleans, and made another 15-20 day trips from KC. It is my little piece of heaven on earth. I'm sure there are some less than friendly people and may also be some less than scrupulous businesses, but you know-- I ain't seen any of them yet!!!

I grew up within about a mile of Stockton Lake near Cedar Ridge and have to say it has been awesome my whole life! There are a bunch of little shops that aren't much to look at, but some of them are okay, but some are definitely rough. I never fish over on the west side much as the east is much closer and i have more experience there, but there are a couple of decent shops to get some bait and tackle on your way from springfield. There is a small shop just north of Walnut Grove on hwy 215, good minnows, worms, etc. also there is a gas station in Dadeville that now has nightcrawlers and minnows, he is a good friend of mine and has really cleaned the little place up. They have sandwiches, pizza, and small groceries. I don't think he has much tackle just the live bait right now. I have had good and bad experiences with Lakeys in Aldrich and the Country Depot near Mutton Creek. Usually it is when there are people i know working there. I will say that the Country Depot owner is one of the nicest ladies ever!

There is a old bait shop for sale in Bona, just 1/2 mile or so from Cedar Ridge for sale and I used to love that place! It was called Humberts and they had everything you could imagine. They couple retired when i was growing up, wish someone would reopen it.

Hope this helps in your tackle/bait search in my neck of the woods!

Did you see the old Humberts Store in Bona? It is a white building on the northeast corner of the 4 way. It is a decent sized store with an apartment on the back of it. The people selling it also own the little boat storage facility to the north. If someone was to fix the place up i'm sure people would stop there as it is so close to Cedar Ridge.
