zarraspook Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I was at Stockton Wed. morning ( 0630-1230 hrs ) and caught 7 crappie (6 keep) , one 16" walleye and an apple basket full of 6-8" bass.... So, Friday morring I took my neighbor, who is 73 and loves to "catch" fish, and in 4hours we caught 3 short crappie and two apple baskets full of 6-8" bass... He enjoyed the trip but, no meat for the skillet !!!! "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Thunderin Gobbler Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Went to Roark Bluff Friday night thinking we'd get into some crappie, but once again I can't seem to find them darn things. We fished the Son's Creek arm and went back into the mouth of the 2nd big cove to the right. Our graph showed fish in there like crazy, but no crappie would bite. Finally tied up to some trees and caught 2 small ones (7"). Decided to go back to bass fishing and picked up about 8-10 small bass in about an hour on plastic worms. All of them were from 13.5" to 14.75". No keepers, but still a fun night on the water. Just wish I could find the crappie.
Members kcbear Posted September 20, 2010 Members Posted September 20, 2010 My wife and I stayed at Orleans Trail Saturday nite-- they were having a tournament out of there I guess because the place was packed, absolutely no parking around the ramp area, and a little music and celebration at the restaurant. That was a wedding reception I guess. Anyway, launched at the ramp north of Orleans area, near dam. Over Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, we picked up about 15 bass, only one keeper (nice smallie my wife caught on a crappie jig)-- but did have 3-4 others that were fat, but short. Wife also picked up 10-15 bluegill, with at least 1/2 being hand size. We fished dam area Saturday eve. looking for whites chasing shad-- lots of shad no whites. KC BEAR
Members Professor Jim Posted September 21, 2010 Members Posted September 21, 2010 Did my now "usual" routine of pulling my son around on his knee board while watching for whites last Friday evening. Not a darn thing was sighted except some shad surfacing. No whites around them. I did fish along one bluff for about 15 minutes and caught an 17" LM which was promptly tossed back. My son and his friend had fun, even if the fish didn't cooperate.
Members clf989s Posted September 21, 2010 Members Posted September 21, 2010 Thanks to Mr. Bob Bennett's expertise of the lake I was able to find this nice 4 pounder on Thursday. We caught 4-5 keepers and 6 other shorts. I would strongly recommend the Stockton Lake Guide Service for those like me that have just started fishing Stockton or those just looking for a good day of fishing.
nxs Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 We went Thursday out of Ruark. Late getting started about 10am or so. Hit a couple of places that did well for us in the past but nothing. Lots of boats heading up into Sons Creek so we went back up into the Big Sac Arm. Second cove we checked we found crappie out in 14-1/2' to 15-1/2' of water. Close or right on the bottom. They'd only hit minnows about 2' off the bottom. Didn't want any kind of jigs or plastics. They stayed in the general area but you had to follow them on the graph. They just shut off about 4pm so we left. Had 21 keepers and probably caught about that many shorts. For whatever reason the shad were staying down, we had a couple puke up shad in the boat. Nice green fish clf989s
Walleyedmike Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Thanks for the reports guys, I'll hopefully be down this weekend trying to catch a few. Hey kwall, what presentations did you guys try? WM
kwall Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 mainly used siow death on one pole, harness on one, and jigging a spoon on another in 16 to 30 ft. Going 1/2 to 3/4 mph. Fished mainly Mutton B5 toB7 flat
Walleyedmike Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Thanks kwall. I had some luck trolling flicker shads on lead core line three weeks ago around Masters, I'll proably try that again. Although I pretty much always try to work that flat that you guys were on. Thanks for the info! WM
