The downside to trying new places is you have no idea what the river is like. Unfortunetly for spiderman, we were too far up this river and it is borderline not floatable. In fact it was more like a creek. That being said, the fishing was good, we caught quite a few fish, the biggest being my 18" smallie caught on a lucky craft live pointer(american shad). I also caught a couple decent largemouths, one spot(spiderman caught one also), goggleye, and different perches. The water was pretty clear. Here is big fish of the day:

and here is a fish I thought at the time might be a shadow bass, but when I got home I googled it and realized it was not so now I have no idea. Any ideas?

Me thinks that is just one dark colored smallie.

And most of that "river" was no more than a drainage ditch wide.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Does Spidermans web glove/wrist thingy work when its wet? Did he get to use it to pull you through the shallows? Does it make all the fishing gear sticky? Fishing with Spiderman could have it advantages. :P

He calls me "spiderman" cuz I hate those freaking little things. And there were spiderwebs stretched across the whole stream in some places. Every freaking tree branch we had to duck under had webs galore in them. And I mean WEBS. Things were thicker than the line on my reels!!! Nothing worse than spiders than their stupid webs stuck to your face when you're trying to fish or paddle a canoe through a narrow weed choked, log riddeled ditch.

I love trying out new places, but they can make you nervous. I would rather the water be borderline too low, than borderline too high. I made that mistake the first time I went on crooked creek, and it was a rough day on the water. What river were you on? I'll have to try out that lucky craft live pointer. Are you using the shorter 80MR version? I've used the Lucky Craft BDS Magic, but without much success. Maybe I just haven't fished it enough.

South Fork of the Spring River.

Better to go when "borderline too high" than any other time.

I will NEVER float that stretch again. Come to think of it, the next stretch didn't look too promising either.

There were a few short shoals with loooooong sloooooooooow pools. Most of it was just a weed choked, timber ridden too many overhanging branches to get a decent cast, miserable mess of a stream. Maybe if the water was a foot higher and it was earlier in the year?????

Gotmuddy has caught a lot of smallies and largemouth on the rivers with that lure. It broke on him yesterday. Caught a smallie of about 14" and the wire joining the separate joints broke leaving the head of the lure attached to his line and the rest of the lure in the fishes face. I thought about getting me some of them, but he said they cost $15 each, and after seeing that thing break...

Nice action on those lures though. Nice paint job too. But they should probably use a better system of joining the separate pieces.

Yea, I have one lucky craft crankbait, and I am so nervous using it because it cost so much, so I almost never fish it. I like to use Bandit crankbaits, they don't cost too much, and they work well. I have caught a lot of big bass on them over the years. As far as jerk baits go, I don't fish them too much. I have a 4.5 inch rattlin rogue, that I just bought for the fall. I am curious to see how that works.

I am not too upset about losing that crankbait. It is the 80mr version. I have caught at least 3 18" smallies on that crank and numerous others. I am going to get a couple more. There was a time when I would never spend that on a crankbait but I have had very good success on lucky craft stuff.

BTW, spiderman almost dumped the canoe a few times trying to get away from webs
