Members Dave Dewayne Posted September 21, 2010 Members Posted September 21, 2010 I have been chassing crappie for over 25 yrs at Stockton always relying on some good crappie fishn reports from people willing to share some info to help out so I decided to share my first one. Fished Monday Thursday and Friday last week, caught a limit each day by 11 am. I personaly caught over 300 crappie last week with aprx 1 fish in 4or5 a keeper. First off I only fish the Big Sac area between Roark and CC hwy Grienfield ramp. Water was cooling to the 74deg rang and was 78 by friday. I looked for 45degr rocky banks but close to the river channel and used the graph finding brush in 12 to 15 ft water and fished it. All my fish were on minnows my buddy used tubes with very view bites he had to switch to minnows later lol. The key was a good live minnow if the wind was not blowing much. When the fish seemed to be slow I would throw to the bank with a minnow and a sinker and hop it back to the boat kinda like a jig and got many reaction strikes but hung up a lot in doing this around brush. Most were cought 1/2 way to roark fron cc hwy.
Walleyedmike Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Nice report Dave and welcome aboard. Looks like you'll be a great resource for all of us. Do you walleye fish at all? WM
straw hat Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Holy Cow Dave!! I fish north of CC a lot myself. In case you can't tell I am green with envy. A deep dark green!!! lol Due to some family issues I can't get out on the lake right now and you are breaking my heart. I really look forward to your reports in the future. Welcome aboard.
kwall Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Thanks Dave, my dad,mom and Sis are arriving this weekend to fish for walleye, but may try crappie based on your report , Thanks for the help.
shockley32 Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Thanks for the good report. It always helps to have people post reports so we can all learn together. Haven't been to Stockton in a while but I'm itching to get back over there soon. Brad Have your visited Limitville lately?
Members drsnag Posted September 22, 2010 Members Posted September 22, 2010 Congrats Dave-you have a very convincing report to lead me away from the tree stand and into the pontoon. I may buy stock in minnows the way you go through them. Gonna be up to Stockton next weekend, hope the bite holds on. You have vindicated so many of us that fish that area exclusively and have come up short, though this year has been better for crappie for us than several of the last years. When is the fish fry?
Members Dave Dewayne Posted September 22, 2010 Author Members Posted September 22, 2010 Nice report Dave and welcome aboard. Looks like you'll be a great resource for all of us. Do you walleye fish at all? WM I usualy dont set out to walleye fish but sometimes I get lucky and catch a few . Usualy in the springtime is when I do the best.I did not catch any this last week but hope to start picking up a few while crappie fishing. Wish the water would cool a touch more.
Members Dave Dewayne Posted September 22, 2010 Author Members Posted September 22, 2010 Thanks for all the nice comments. I usualy dont do a lot of fishing in the fall cause of hunting but put up my hunting stuff for a few years . I got somewhat lucky the last few weeks maybe, I caught 200 crappie the week before at lake Big Hill in Kansas.I Will be fishing 3-5 days of next week on Stockton when it cools off a little for I do not take the hot days well , will let everyone know if things change and how I do. One fellow said something about minnow stock, I used over 1000 minnows ( 10 pounds) in 2 weeks LOL. In the picture I am the short dud with the big straw hat, sure keeps the sun off my neck. Thanks everyone, Dave
