Members FLYFISHINMAN Posted September 27, 2010 Members Posted September 27, 2010 Looking to replace my starting battery. I am looking at the Optima 34M or D34M. The 34M is a starting battery only and the D34M is a deep cycle, but can also be used a starting battery. I plan to upgrade my electronics in the next few years and I am leaning towards the D34M. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these batteries? Or, a suggestion of a different brand? Thanks, Dave
gotmuddy Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 If it were me and I wanted a really good battery I would check out Odyssey batteries. They are sealed AGM batteries built to military specs. I run them in my atvs and they last very well. That being said, I have a pair of red top optimas in my diesel truck and so far I have been very happy with them. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
flytyer57 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Over the course of 20 years of fishing, I have gone through many batteries. Some only lasted a season or two up in WI. The last battery I bought was an Optima Deep Cycle/Cranking battery. Cost me quite a bit more than the cheaper batteries I had purchased previously, but it lasted quite a bit longer too. In fact, I sold my boat in 2008 to a friend of mine and when I went back up to WI this summer to visit, he was still using that same battery. I'd say spend the money, you wont be sorry. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Dutch Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I'm going into my 5 th year on a crank from O'Reilly's. It was the largest cranking amps in the soore. It gens up a 225 Optimax at all temps.
