ohmz138 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Good idea for bulk that is cheaper. One difference between the two will be suppleness. Good quality tippet presents the flies more naturally. Not that big of a difference though.

Trout Commander Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 For those using the 8lb Vanish, do you find it turns over reasonably well? Seems it would be fine in shorter lengths but not so good at 7' and longer. In all of my immaturity and inexperience I can tell no marked difference, but I don't believe I have used it in any lengths over 7'. Also, anyone tried using good quality fluorocarbon fishing line such as Seaguar instead on regular tippet? 2lb is just .001 larger than 6X. I have not, as of yet. It is on my list to try. I hate paying $10-14 for 50 yds of tippet. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

I wondered about this when I started fly fishing, too, because I couldn't believe the outrageous prices of quality tippet. The answer I got from those who know is this... Tippet is manufactured with a different process that makes the line smoother throughout the whole spool...that is, regular fluoro (or mono) will have skinny spots and fat spots, where tippet is somehow made with a more consistent diameter, therefore producing a finer, stronger and more supple line. I use regular 4# or 6# Seaguar for the moron stockers out at Busch, but use quality tippet when fishing for real fish on real water.
rcguy Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I love furled leaders with the little ring in the end to tie on the tippet. Sweet
