My least favorite hatch has got to be the everybody's fishing my hole hatch.

Next would be those darn size 24 midges that have been coming off the Norfork every morning and evening. I can't see a hook that small to tie on an imitation. I tried some size 20 Griffith's Gnats to no avail.

As long as the bigger fish keep hitting my size 8-14 woolybugger though, I'll be ok.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

I enjoy the bait fish hatch, minnows to be exact. That's when I pull out my favorite Lucky Craft jerk bait at Taneycomo and catch an 18" brown trout on every fifth cast. They slam the bait so hard it almost knocks the paint off. Anther key benefit is I don't need to wear a "gay" Orvis hat.

Since I use 8 lb test the fish is still as lively as the second he was hooked, pinch down the barbs and no hook damage either.

I knew someone was going to post something to that effect.

By the way, I have never purchased an Orvis product in my life.

The only Orvis product I have is an Orvis Reel storage. Then a couiple years later, Fishpond came out with one exactly the same. Kinda with I could have waited or known about the future.

Other than that, I tend to stay away from Orvis. Too expensive.

Well I have to throw in two, but this is the oddity.... both are Trico hatches.

The Trico hatch on the Current River can be incredible at times. I have great success catching a lot of fish, not fishing the size 26-30 dry fly, but using a size 20-24 trico emerger that I tie, plus of course my buckskin dropper.

Second, the Trico hatch on the South Platte in CO. The best section being the "Dream Stream" portion below Spinney Mountain Resevoir. The hatches can make a grown man choke. I saw that one in person. My brother was fishing the opposite side of the river, a gust of wind came a long and push a "huge" cloud of tricos in his direction. For some reason he had his mouth open and took in some of the bugs.... about 50+. He was spitting for a good two minutes. The size of of those bugs are a bit bigger (size 18 -22) than their relatives in MO.

I'm chuckling to myself thinking of my brother spitting out those bugs. :)

Bikini hatches are great, but you always have to worry about the one who shouldn't be wearing a bikini, or anything that shows cellulite or anything that shows her legs or that tatoo with some guys name which resembles bud light. . . this could go on for pages. I am really ruining this topic ;)

In my neck of the woods, I enjoy the hex hatch on the Eleven Point and Spring rivers, though I get more top water activity on the Spring during that hatch. Fished a salmon fly hatch out west once and I have to say that is the best hatch I ever fished.

I don't worry about what kind of bugs are hatching but when the birds start swooping down, I'm there. I ignore the little fish chasing the bugs on the surface and fish below them to catch the bigger bass eating the smaller fish above.

Big and little brown bugs, big and little white bugs is about as far as I go with the bug id.

what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends
