ollie Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Ok, this question is for those in the know. How does my cell phone dial 911 when it actually dialed 112? It was in my pocket and I'm pretty sure my foot hit the keypad when I crossed my legs to sit. The phone was on lock and it stilled dialed out? I only know it dialed out after the dispatcher called me back and asked if everything was ok. I was a little surprised when she called me. I looked at numbers called and sure enough it read 112. Is this a text number for the police? I told her everything was ok so she told me they wouldn't send anyone, but you know how the police works, they sent someone anyways. He wasn't too happy when the dog met him at the end of the yard! lol Sorry, the cops around here just have no respect for anyone. jdmidwest Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 At least you did not make a drug deal with him, might have landed you in jail... I have heard of that happening alot lately on the news. flytyer57 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 In some areas, *112 is an emergency number just like 911. Correction: Dialing 112 from a mobile phone is dialing a worldwide emergency number that can apparently be dialed even if the phone is locked. From Wikepedia There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
ollie Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Thanks flytyer57, I was really wondering why it dialed the dispatcher. Didn't make any sense at the time. I am glad they responded, just not the way they did. Trout Commander Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Huh???? AT LEAST HE DIDN'T MAKE A DRUG DEAL WITH AN UNDERCOVER POLICE OFFICER.... BEEN A LOT OF STORIES ABOUT IT ON THE NEWS LATELY. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? GOOD. (sorry everyone else for yelling, Cricket probably has a couple pink and white marabou jigs in his ears) I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

(sorry everyone else for yelling, Cricket probably has a couple pink and white marabou jigs in his ears) Youngins listen to too much loud rap music nowadays, but they do understand the all caps. I did type it sloowwllyyy at first for everyone. Locally, there have been a few stories in the news about persons making drug deals with police officers, seems like they dialed the wrong number or something. ollie Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Ok, but I understand what Cricket is saying. Why would I make a drug deal when the dispatcher called me back and told me they weren't sending over an officier and then they do, but he is in uniform? I'm dumb, but not stupid and why would you even make that comment! I didn't really think it made much sense either. Just my take on it. Correction: Dialing 112 from a mobile phone is dialing a worldwide emergency number that can apparently be dialed even if the phone is locked. From Wikepedia Negative ghostrider. It seems it only works on SOME cell phones. I am at work at the 911 center now and just tried it with my partner. I have US Cellular and she has AT&T. Her phone called 911 after she dialed 112. I didnt tell her why,I just told her to call 112. Scared the crap out of her when the 911 line rang. My cell phone just gave me an error message What county are you in Ollie? You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
ollie Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Tippet, I'm in Newton county and the nunber from the dispatcher was the county "to report a crime" number or at least that was what was in the phone book.
