Members shortfish Posted October 13, 2010 Members Posted October 13, 2010 I wanted to bring this up on my last trip. The westbound stretch of Hwy 44 from right before Cuba and for about ten miles after seems really rough. The road looks good, but my truck just bounces light I have no shocks. I thought that was somewhat new.. say 5 or 6 years old. Modot needs to address this
awhuber Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 MODOT head for this district spoke at our Rotary meeting and said it is their fault due to a screw up when they replaced the pavement and are working on a fix to the problem. Tom Stehn is the district engineer 1-888 ASK MODOT (275-6636
Members shortfish Posted October 13, 2010 Author Members Posted October 13, 2010 Thanks for the info. I thought it was my truck, but a buddy who went to table rock noticed the same thing.
rainbow Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 First time I drove through there I thought I had a flat tire and pulled off the road. That strectch is rough as a cob.
awhuber Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Yep... I have been to 4 programs that T Stehn has done and that is always the first question he gets. Modot told the contractor to cut out a step in preparing the new road bed.

eric1978 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 44 west has been a disaster for...as long as I can remember. If you think that's bad, there's a stretch of highway running somewhere through Texarkana (can't remember where, been awhile) and it did that same thing for at least 50 miles...and we were pulling a bass boat on top of it. I felt like throwing up by the end of it.
catman70 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I took a geological engineering course sometime back and I think I recall a number of caves running under 44. Supposedly there's a particularly large one that's near the surface just south of Rolla that could become a sinkhole anytime. Could just be a rumor though...

10pointer Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 That part of 44 is terrible, I have pulled over and every single time I ride through there with someone else I have to assure them they don't have an issue with their car and it is just the crappy pavement I honestly wish MODOT could do just one thing right. We can be proud to live in a state with some of the worst roads in the country. Look it up if you dont believe me! Dont know which states could be worse! Ill get off my soapbox
