Mic..I live right next door to Blue Springs and fish it about 2-3 times a week. The water is low right now (we are in need of some darn rain) and gin clear. Large trout are gathering in the pools but are next to impossible to catch even with the lightest of presentations. The ripples and runs are fishing ok...I'm catching many trout about 6-8 inches in length on scuds.

If you have never been before be prepaired to fish slow and stay out of the water as much as possible. These fish are spooking at their own shadows right now. When I say fish slow, I mean think snail speed. If you wat a chance at one of the 20+ inchers I see holding up in the pools...you might have to become invisible.

With all that being said...its one hell of a nice creek full of trout. I love it.

FYI: If you plan on useing a fly rod and are not yet good at handleing it in tight spots..leave it at home and take some ultra light spinning gear. This creek is unforgiving to say the least when it comes to the wayward cast...it will chew up your leaders and spit them right back at you. There is no backcast room about 75-80% of the time.

Good luck.

I know what your saying. The first time I ever fly fished for trout was on Blue Spring Creek, and the water was real low. It was an interesting day..........

I only managed to catch one 8" bow pretty much by accident, but I limited out on trees:)

Little #18-20 Hare's Ears and Pheasant Tails will get you into fish if your streamcraft is right.

Mic,

Blue Springs is a great little retreat away from the trout park. It is such a small stream, I think it could only handle maybe 4 fisherman a day because of the size and limited number of holes that will contain fish.

Flyflinger, you may be more of a novice to this stream than I, but 20+" fish? The largest I have ever catch was 18" on this stream and there is only one hole that I know of that can hold a fish that size. But again I don't get there often enough.

Flyfishmaster,

Your right..I was just kidding. This stream is far to small to hold many large trout.
