I went north out of CC a while back and saw a number of private docks, can someone explain these to me? I was under the impression that slips or docks were prohibited. Are these grandfathered in or something like that?

I contacted the Corp about these docks nearly 15 years ago. These docks were built before the ban went into place a few months after the lake filled. Because they were already in place they were allowed to stay. (like you said; grandfathered in). They are allowed to repair but not replace or move. They told me that they are rarely sold and that the last one sold for nearly $50K. The guy seemed serious but if you have ever looked at them up close ... well surely he was kidding.

Good question. I had a chance to fish with Bob Bennett and we ran by a few docks too. He said the same thing, they were 'grandfathered'. What that means exactly I'm not certain. Did the docks exist on the rivers prior to the lake?

Edit:Thanks, Straw. I was typing this and watching election results so it took me awhile.

You will find a few docks scattered around the lake. Most are in the cove at Hawker. There are about 30 of them and as they disappear they will not be replaced. Some day there won't be any of them left.

I can't say that I have ever taken the time to confirm what I have always heard, but from my understanding these docks have to be repaired while in the water. If they are removed then they can't be put back. True or not, not 100 sure, but I'm still happy we don't have them like other lakes. I've heard they sold for around 10k, but that is still lots of money for the condition most of them are in, and that was one up at cc.

Hope everyone had a great turkey day!! Time to get back to crappie and walleye fishing (and maybe a few bass in between)

And the docks were put in after the lake was there, then they made a law to forbid them, but allowed the ones already there to stay.

Like I said, I have never really confirmed all this, just what i have always heard.
