That's the mentality there. Sounds like they have regressed back to the 1800's. I thought we progressed as a society. Type in "mountain lion response team" in the search box. Scroll through listings until you see the link for "How To Report A Sighting".

All ya gotta do is get out the .22 and shoot it then call the MDC and tell them you thought it was a threat to your cow, llama, pet, child... There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
