mhall02 Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 I'm going to give it a try this afternoon, either 21 or 28, I'll post how I do.
Gatorjet Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Fished Suson for a while this evening. Bounced several small jigs under a float saw one fella have a long fight but lost in the end. I had no bites. Seems the poachers are out as usual. Using bait and keeping trout, somethings never change. Would have called but apparently left Gamethief off the this phone gonna have to dig that number back up. Has something changed? Suson was always catch and keep with no bait restrictions. Real men go propless!

Fished there yesterday, 4:15 to 5:00. Trying to teach my son how to fly fish. The only thing we could catch was the leaves floating on the water.
jjtroutbum Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Well I'll be. Gatorjet thanks for posting the correction and the link. I guess that not having the number available saved me one mistake, but allowed me to make a very public one. If I caused anyone concern for no apparently no reason I apologize. Thom Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Great job on giving it to 'em, Thom! I was out at 28 this morning with my 2 year old son and caught uno trouto. Fun but brief. Anyone else there? Actually we had a nice conversation. I didn't give it to them just asked them to reread the regs and they got the point. They thanked me for calling it to their attention. Last year nearly every time I went to Busch there was someone checking unfortunately with the economy as it is and funds so short I don't expect that this year. Thom Harvengt

mhall02 Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Here is the scoop on 21, fish were jumping and grabbing off the top. 0 trout and 2 tiny bluegill on the fly rod in 2 hours (scuds, and wooly bugger, no dice) . Switched to spinning and a 1/32 olive and yellow jig, ding ding. Caught 3 trout and 1 nice crappie in about 1 hour and called it a day at 1700.
eric1978 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Here is the scoop on 21, fish were jumping and grabbing off the top. 0 trout and 2 tiny bluegill on the fly rod in 2 hours (scuds, and wooly bugger, no dice) . Switched to spinning and a 1/32 olive and yellow jig, ding ding. Caught 3 trout and 1 nice crappie in about 1 hour and called it a day at 1700. 28 fished well today from about 11:30 when the clouds rolled in to around 1:00 when I left. Caught 19 in the two hours I was there...had one on just about every cast for about twenty minutes at one point. Nothing big, a couple may have been 15-16 inches. Had to run off a couple of Powerbaiters who I watched let a fish flop around in the dirt and lay there for about ten minutes while the guy who caught it talked on his phone and the other guy sat in his lawn chair and smoked a cig with the fish gasping for breath right next to his left foot. Finally he picked up the fish and ripped the hook out along with his guts. While I was scolding them I noticed three fish floating right around their area...one was still twitching in a desperate final effort to right himself. They were young guys, and they seemed genuinely surprised when I told them bait wasn't allowed on this lake until February, and I guess I can buy that...but the BRIGHT YELLOW sign that they walked right past states the regs clearly, and they still should have known how to treat a fish, regardless of how they go about catching it. I wanted to dunk them in the water, pummel the hell out of them and roll 'em around in the dirt until they were battered like a Gorton's fish stick, but I restrained myself. They left immediately. Lesson learned, hopefully.
stlfisher Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Agent caught some guys today using Illegal bait. Wrote them all tickets and walked them over to the sign. Pretty funny to watch. I have to give the agents credit they have been out at Forest Park quite a bit this year. The numbers of poachers seem to be down compared to last year...at least at Forest Park. Fishing has been great, but the fish are starting to wise up a little. Jigs under an indicator still working very well.
