this afternoon I was telling my dad about Phil's "rude awakening" Monday when he started telling me a story about what he saw that was similar when he was there last thursday. He said he was walking down between #1 and #2 and noticed a family of about six people fishing with worms. As he approached he saw several stringers full of slot trout. He said he approached what looked like the father and told him that he was fishing illegally, etc. The man acted as though he didn't understand the language and continued fishing. My dad then proceeded to go back up to the road and grab a regs brochure to bring them. The man reacted poorly, so dad could do nothing more but wait till they got back in their vehicles to get their plates (no cell phone with him and he'd been dropped off, so no car either)They managed to somehow slip away while dad was fishing upstream a bit. Needless to say, he was dissapointed to have let them get away. He described them as a hispanic family with 3 children. Hopefully they'll not return, but if they do, maybe someone else will spot them quickly and be able to call on them or at least get a plate #.

Too bad they're teaching their children this way.

Hispanic, eh?

If they're there on Saturday morning, I'll be sure to say something to them like "Lance los pescados! Usted no puede guardarlos aquĆ." (Release the fish! You can't keep them here.) SURPRISE! That lousy language excuse will only work for a little while. Now, if I could just remember those Spanish swear words . . .

Hatchery would know how to get ahold of an agent at 417-334-4865 or they will come down themselves and talk to the people in question but they can't write a ticket.

Quinten cell is 417-294-5543

Like it or not the hispanic community will only continue to grow. I guess I would appreciate someone telling me I was in the wrong rather than a game warden telling me. Just tell em mucho denaro if they get caught! LOL. But on the other side of the coin ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law. In my youth I spent the night in Jail in Juarez Mexico. Seems you can't walk around on the side walk after you have been drinking, (I only had 3 beers). I passed by 2 policemen and they asked me if I had been drinking, they saw me come out of a cantina. I told them yes and they said come with us. I learned my lesson even if I didn't speak the language!

Wow- I've been in Juarez...

Mike Abdon, our former agent, told me there's one word when talking to non speaking english violators- JAIL! They all knew what that meant.

I hope no one thinks we are picking on spanish speaking people here. I enjoy their family-oriented customs and life styles and they are hard working people for the most part. But espanic populations are growing and spanish would be the #2 language needed to be used on signs.

I agree Phil! Whatever that is worth. I worked on the railroad and all signage posted on the property dealing with unauthorized people was in English/Spanish.
