Well it has been many months since I have been at BSSP and I rolled in to the park around 7:15 noticed that they had a remodeling project going on. Wow, what a change that will be when it is finished.

Anyway back to the fishing. I started out in an unusual spot for me, on the bottom end of the dam. I normally start in the "High bank area" but there were too many people there to begin. The "catching" was incredable, I used multiple flies and catch fish on all of them but the highest producer was a size 16 Olive Scud w/ a red head. Most fish were in the 8" - 14" range. More on the smaller size. What's up with all the midgets, did they have to clean out the rearing pools?

After 2 hours I moved down to the "High banks area". Again I catch multiple fish on every fly I used. I finally spoted a nice fish. A 21" rainbow, nice 5 minute fight. I then broke for lunch.

After lunch I drove down to Zone 3 and started fishing the Suzy Hole area with a Crackleback, as soon as the fly went subsurface, it got attached. Those fish were hungry. I then swiched to my double nymph setup and fished the tailout of the pool. After fighing a a few fish, the pool was get stirred up and I saw a shadow moving. Two casts later...

I continued down stream fishing ever little run and hole. FYI: there is a lot of nice fishing water in zone 3, and the number of fish there would surprise you. Also the fight of the zone 3 fish is much better than up stream (IMO).

Over all weather was great with cloudy overcast skies with rain showers on and off through out the day. I could not ask for a better day!

Side note: there were not a lot of people out, that was surprising for the season opener.

Good report! Mine is not as great but all in all it was a good day. I fished from 9 till noon in zone 1 between the handicap ramps. Caught 25 or so on zebra midges and Y2K(of all things). Fished up by the Gauge house in the afternoon for awhile and picked up 4 on a grey RS2 and then went to zone 3 at 2:00. Zone 3 sure is different. I caught a couple on an olive wooley bugger and probably 30 chubs ( I guess they are) on a sz16 peach egg. I finally took off the egg after gaining my status as CHUB KING for the day. The weather was really nice with just a few little showers during the day. Temp was 69 according to my car.

Yeah we saw you guys, it's all on disc. Nice fish, FFM ! :goodjob:

Nothing wrong with letting them grow up in the stream, right ? Almost seems like real fishing that way.

RC,

That must have been you down in Zone 3 around 3 PM. I was fishing upstream of you. You asked me if I was catching trout because all you were catching was chubs on an egg pattern. After you moved down stream, I moved in to the are you were fishing and laded two bow. I had to really change my setup so the indicator was 7' deep in order to get the flies down to the bottom. That hole has really gotten deep and swift.

FE,

Since you got me on disk, could you send me a copy. I might be up for an Academy Award with that performance. :P

FFM, Nice fish! Thanks for the report.

There is a particular section of zone 3 that is; I think the most scenic in the park.

The only good line is a tight line
