Taneycomo Fishing Report: 12/3/2010, 12/4/2010

On the first day we think we caught well over 100 fish. On the second day we actually kept count and ended up with 97 fish boated, many more hook ups, we started at like 10am, finished at 5pm, and it was very cold and windy. We lost count of the number of doubles and triples (fishing with three people) and at one point we landed 5 straight fish which we called our "Tiger Slam".

On day one, there were 4 generators on, so we fished deep with a gray scud, a peach egg, and an AB shot. We did OK. After the generators shut off around noon, we switched to 2 black/copper zebra midges, no lead weight, and a little foam indicators. We hammered the fish the rest of the day!

On day two, there was 1 generator on for awhile and then I think none for the rest of the day. We fished the same zebra midge rig as we did on day one.

Kris Nelson was our guide and did an absolutely amazing job, mind-blowing really. He has cabins for his clients to use, he cooks dinner and breakfast, ties flies with you, etc. Very hosptiable and friendly. By the time the trip was over, it felt like he was part of the family. Kris knows the Taneycomo waters like the back of his hand. We were on the fish all day, both days. He understand the water flow and how to fish different situations. He gave us many fly-fishing tips to help us see strikes, hook fish, fight fish, and land fish. He seems to have eyes in the back of his head. Several times he would be untangling a knot or netting a fish and we'd here him say, "Set!!!!". We had an incredible two days on Taneycomo. Thanks, Kirs!!!

This is a rarity... I've never heard of Kris or his service. There's nobody down here doing what he's doing - it's a great idea for sure. Sounds like he has Taneycomo down pat.

Awesome report and looks like he runs a heckuva fishing boat as well! I've fished on the big rivers for catfish out of a couple 2472 SeaArks and they were fine pieces of equipment.

I was actually on that trip with Max as well and I second everything he said. It was an amazing weekend. Friday was pleasant and we did so well fishing that we decided to go on Saturday even though it was much colder and windy. I don't think that there was one minute on Saturday that I was not cold, but it was totally worth it. Kris was excellent and provided all of the flies even though we had brought our own with us. Leaders, tippet, etc. all provided. If we had problem, he handed us a backup rod while he fixed ours up again. We never were empty handed. You know that you're having a good day when it has been five minutes with no fish and you start to complain a little! It was really easy to get spoiled. Like Max said, we lost count of all of the doubles and triple that we had on. At one point we went 7 or 8 fish on before the last one was released, it was spectacular. We talked to several people on the water that were having an "OK" day catching a few between several of them. This was my first trip to Taney, and I was very pleased. The water was beautiful, scenery was great, and the fishing was fabulous. Above all was Kris' hospitality. His cabins were comfortable, and his company was very good. I could go on and on and not say enough about him or the services that he provided. I'd even have no problems taking my wife who is a very novice fly fisher, and be confident that she'd be on fish. He can definitely count on our business on a regular basis.

I can second everything on here also. I have seen kris' cabins lately. They have a/c, stoves, fridges. He put me and some friends on the bass on table rock. And i cant wait to go trout fishing with him on taneycomo.
