Members Troutguy Posted December 13, 2010 Author Members Posted December 13, 2010 What kind of screws (or nails) are you using to build the boat? Brass, Stainless, Galvanized, etc.? Thanks
lee G. Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 On the hull, they were brass, I used Galvanized a few other places.
gotmuddy Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I intend to use either all stainless fasteners or most likely use decking screws that are coated everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members Troutguy Posted December 13, 2010 Author Members Posted December 13, 2010 The decking screws are great... but I can't find any shorter than 1-1/4".
lee G. Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Thats because the thinist decking material is 3/4 of an inch, to find shorter screws you will have to go to a different type of screw.
Members Troutguy Posted December 14, 2010 Author Members Posted December 14, 2010 The drift boat guys recommend 3M5200 caulk as the very best for boat building, but there's none in my area. What type of caulking do you like? Thanks
lee G. Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I used a construction glue that was good in water, dont recall the brand name, maybe PL-400? Anyway- I am not up to date on what is new, Troutguy.
Members Troutguy Posted December 14, 2010 Author Members Posted December 14, 2010 I really don't see why a quality 35-year, paintable silicone would not seal a boat well. The old guys used butyl-rubber caulk, and it's still available.
