lee G. Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I have remodeled or repaired houses that had geocell silicone caulk on window trim, takeing the trim off would rip out chunks of wood, it seals good, i almost tryed in on the boats i built.
lee G. Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I dont think geocell is paintable, come to think of it.
gotmuddy Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 The drift boat guys recommend 3M5200 caulk as the very best for boat building, but there's none in my area. What type of caulking do you like? Thanks I will use nothing else. Look online and you can buy caulk gun tubes of it for ~$10. I have used it for years on 4-wheelers and if you want something sealed up thats what I use. Its extremely durable AND flexible. On the tube the first usage listed is securing decking. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

woodman Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I take it you are not going to epoxy the wood... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Members Troutguy Posted December 22, 2010 Author Members Posted December 22, 2010 Hey Woodman... Let's talk about epoxy. Are you talking about fiberglasing the boat, or just coating it with a layer of epoxy, like painting it? I really don't care to spend the extra $$$ on a boat that is so cheap to build. I can build another boat for the cost of the epoxy, or less.
woodman Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Even if you don't use the fiberglass cloth the epoxy is the toughest finish you can use. And a lot of guys will mix graphite powder into the epoxy resin and coat the bottom to make it slide over rocks etc. better.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Members Troutguy Posted January 16, 2011 Author Members Posted January 16, 2011 Big delay on my boat building... It took longer to dry my fresh cut side boards than I expected this time of year. One more week of drying and then I can start building the boat, finally.
