Hogfan Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Thanks for all the input and help guys. I ended up going with a kit from Harbor Freight. Got the airbrush, hose, compressor, and all the other stuff it comes with for less than $100. I chose not to spend a lot of money up front just to make sure I liked it. Long story short...It's addicting! I've got a lot to learn and have only painted a few baits but attached is my first wiggle wart I painted. It actually looks pretty good in person for my first "craw" pattern. It was chrome and black to start with...
Members Bass Ivy Posted December 29, 2010 Members Posted December 29, 2010 that wart does look good. Im thinking about painting up some myself, if I can make them look as good as yours it will be good enough for me.
motoman Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Hogfan, - I meant to jump into this thread earlier, But, I did what you did, and started out on the inexpensive side, before spending a bunch of money on a hobby I wasn't sure I would enjoy. - Since I'm addicted, I then stepped up to nicer equipment. - That wart looks GREAT! You're well on your way. Airbrushing baits is an excellent way to pass the winter. - Not sure which Harbor Freight brush you got? But, if it's the double action one, siphon feed. I actually started painting upside down with it, and not using the cups that came with it. I would just put in a few drips of color I need for each bait, and it makes cleaning between colors/switching colors much easier!
Gone Fishing Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Nice job Hogfan. How much would you charge to paint up some old warts?
Guest Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Nice looking bait. How did you get the crawdad shell pattern on the sides? Stencil maybe?
Hogfan Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Nice job Hogfan. How much would you charge to paint up some old warts? I've got a special 2 for 1 deal going on right now. I'll paint 2 warts for you if you'll give me one old wart to keep. (Preferably Phantoms)
Hogfan Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Nice looking bait. How did you get the crawdad shell pattern on the sides? Stencil maybe? Thanks..I used a homemade stencil I put together. (Pantent Pending...)

That's a great idea on painting upside down! I thought about it the other night when cleaning up the cups but never tried it. Will definitely give it a shot though!

But, it got to be 2nd nature to me after a bit. It really made cleanup/color change SO much more efficient, that painting with the gun upside-down; outweighed any awkwardness!
dblades Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Just ordered a GX 207 yesterday from www.airbrushcity.com. It's gravity feed, comes with hose and three tips closeout price $40.00, a lot of my buddies use this gun.
