DD'sMC works at the Chateau and she had to work today. Since we got another 3+ inches of snow last night, I decided to drive her to work this morning. First thing this morning, I loaded the waders rods and fishing gear in the car along with the grill and some grub. Got DD'sMC to work at 9 and slid on down the hill to the hatchery parking lot. Not another vehicle there. Suited up and hit the Rebar hole throwing a 3 inch white mink leeche. Caught several nice fish stripping it back in. Very fat fish. Worked my way down to the big hole catching several more. Switched over to a zebra midge under an indicator and caught 10 more fish before heading up to the pavillion for a bathroom break. While I was up there took the time to grill a new York strip steak for lunch. 6 or 8 cars had showed up by now. After lunch headed to the flats between 1 and 2 and continued fishing with the zebra midge. Picked up a few more fish then switched to a white mink sculpin. Caught 7 more fish and decided to call it a day. Beautiful day to be fishing and grilling.

I am jealous, being in St. Louis.. Sounds like a great day.. Our ponds, lakes and rivers are all froze up. Well the rivers are open but have tons of ice.

The closest thing to fishing that I did today was pour weights for snagging and catfishing. Man I can't wait for the weather to break and things to thaw out so I can go wet a line!

I remember the days of pouring weights for spoonbill season very well. I would always do it in Jan. or Feb. with snow on the ground to help cool the molds faster. Use to pour 600 pounds of weights a year. Three guys would collect all the lead during the year. Another guy would melt down the wheel weights, clean the lead and pour it into ingots, then I would melt down all the ingots and pour the sinkers. Use to pour jigs for trout fishing during this time also. Must have had 20 differnt molds back then.
