T-RockJaws Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have several G-Loomis rods, mostly the lower end rods but a couple of their better ones as well. I really like fishing with them, just wish they were not so expensive! While fishing with one last year, I broke it trying to free a snag. Needed to get it back in a hurry so I did their expedite service. You pay about $75 to $100 dollars and they air freight a new one to you no questions asked. The next time I used it, the same thing happened. Over this winter, I sent it back to them with a letter describing what had happened. I fully expected to have to buy a new rod at full price. To my suprise, they sent me an email a few days letter that said they had not experienced this problem before with this type of rod. They also told me they would be sending me a new rod free of charge and thanked me for my business. All I was out was the $8.00 to ship the old rod to them. I know it is a hassel to not be able to take it back to BPS and exchange it on the spot, but their customer service was really great!
jeb Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 The expedited service deal has doubled in price recently. So it's $100, plus shipping, to get that done now. But if you're not in a hurry, their normal warranty usually works out pretty well, like you experienced. I've had to have two of my Loomis rods replaced/repaired. First was a broken rod guide, 2nd was one I snapped while fishing. I buy most of my rods through my local dealer (Hook, Line and Sinker here in Rogers). So I took the rods to them and they handled the sending them into Loomis and getting them back to me for free. All I was out was 2 weeks of not being able to use the rods, a small price to pay. gotmuddy Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have been considering getting one or two from the BPS return store in thayer but I have been leery of how the warranty works. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
T-RockJaws Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 I shop at Hook Line and Sinker quite a bit. Would much rather give them the business as to drive to BPS in Springfield. I forgot they handled Loomis. I was thinking that it cost me $50 the last time I used the expiditor service, thought I was just losing my mind or something when I saw the rediculous fee of $100. It all worked out in the end though!
Dutch Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 That is good to hear. I have had to use the expeditor service 2 times and thought it was great as the broken rods were totally my fault. The $50 or $100 is way better than replacing at $245.
jeb Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I was thinking that it cost me $50 the last time I used the expiditor service, thought I was just losing my mind or something when I saw the rediculous fee of $100. The doubling of the expiditor service has a LOT of us long time Loomis buyers pretty unhappy. This bait and switch by Loomis has had me buying Dobyn's Extreme rods now. HLS can order those in too, BTW. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
T-RockJaws Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 If Loomis had not replaced this rod for me, I had every intention of going with a different rod. Since the experience was positive, I will likely look at Loomis for my next purchase. It will come from HLS though, like supporting that store!
steveearle Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I own about 15 Loomis rods and am not thrilled about the warranty change. I do, however, have the gut feeling that the change is more posturing than anything. I think they are trying to eliminate the guy who breaks his rod because it has a bad guide or 2 and is old...$50 was just too easy. It will be interesting to see if anyone gets turned down based on the new "one replacement per rod."
Trout Commander Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 They changed the warranty on rods they had already sold? Or just the ones sold after XX/XX/2011?? If its not the latter, that doesn't seem like a smart move... I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. jeb Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Yes, they changed it retroactively. But they claim they did not change the "warranty". The lifetime warranty part is still there, and pretty much the same as it was. They changed the Expediter "service". They are now claiming that was never part of the warranty, and subject to change. But that rubs a lot of us the wrong way as it was always billed as part of the warranty in most of our minds, and a big part of reason we picked Loomis over other brands. I had never used the expediter before the change, but still considered it one of the reasons I bought Loomis. Well, shortly after the changes went it, sure enough I finally break one of my rods while fishing with Quillback one day. Call in and they were very hardline about it. I said to a supervisor at the end "Do you realize you're going to lose a long time customer over this?". He said "Yes, we understand that.". Nice. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
