Who's Going March 1St?

If the weather holds up OK I was thinking of going down for the opener. I probably won't join the crowd real early but I really need to get some fishing in...it's been a long winter. Anyone have plans to go?

i will be there for the opener i have been going for awhile now yes there are alot of people but you get too get out of the house and catch some fish so its not all that bad its really a good time

Nope, I'm not going. I've never been for the Opener but it's on my list of things to do. I've always wanted to go just so I can say, "I did it" but it won't be this year.

I know how you feel. I was only down once in 1957 and 2 years ago. I met several folks from this forum at Ollies for breakfast and then fished a few hours. I'm not interested in standing shoulder to shoulder but in the afternoon I found some spots were no more crowded than a summer weekend. Actually, I really need a day to get away. Way to much stress around here!

Opending day is not really for me, but I think the tradition of it, meeting up and hanging with old friends, and maybe a little good natured combat fishing can certainly be an attraction. It probably just depends on the mindset of the anlger going in. Those utlra competetive types kinda get under my skin though!

I grew up in Dent County and did the Montauk opening for years. It has always been a family thing with my dad, brothers, and son. The last few years we have been going to Bennett, catch a few fish have a fish fry and enjoy the tales from years back. I am looking forward to this one, my oldest brother has not fished in 25 years but has dusted off the pole, bought new waders and accessories and I know it will be a great time....can not wait!
