Hogfan Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Anyone have any recommendations on extended motor warranty outside the manufacturer? I’ve never purchased warranty through anyone but the manufacturer itself but noticed some other outside companies offer warranty at a lower price. Does this come with a bigger price tag later down the road? Do these companies cover what they say they will? Thanks for any advice.
gotmuddy Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 extended warranties are a bad idea on everything. If you really really want one make sure you read ALL the fine print. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Guest Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 BEWARE, I would find a good mechanic and spend that extra money on maintenance.
jeb Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Not sure about the boat world, but I'd recommend researching the company you're looking at buying from on the 'net. BBB site from the city they are based in is a good place to start. As far as the value, that's a personal call. They're basically gambling you won't have issues, and you're gambling you will. Sometimes I've lost that gamble, sometimes I've won. I'd guess I'm about even over the years. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Dutch Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 There is way too much profit in them to suit me. I used to sell them and we got 1/2 of the premium just to do the paperwork. I never had a customer who need to use it. I would keep my money in a maintainance account like suggested and have the motor looked over at least yearly by a good mechanic like stated.
