Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 13, 2006 Root Admin Posted July 13, 2006 Here are a few pics I took this morning- Brown trout raceways - walls are about to be poured on the first raceway. New cages being installed to keep birds from preying on trout.
Quillback Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 That's a big hatchery. Is this hatchery a replacement for an older hatchery or is it new and increased capacity as far as number of fish raised?
motroutbum Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Its the same hatchery that has always been there. They made the holding pond on the opposite side of the road to hold browns. and outlet 3 is going to have a fish ladder installed for the browns. somoeone else can help me out on this also.... There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 14, 2006 Author Root Admin Posted July 14, 2006 You're right. Mostly adding space for browns but rainbows too. Fish ladder for browns to move into a housing just to spawn browns. It's going to be cool.
Danoinark Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Phil, do you see them stocking more browns because of the improvements? Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
dave potts Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Aren't they building a new restroom east of the picnic shelter also? Realize this is separate from the hatchery construction but was wondering how it was coming along.
Danoinark Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Dave, it looks maybe they are 1/2 way finished with the new restrooms...Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Greg Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Those restrooms will be a welcome addition. That old one was just plain nasty. My wife always refused to use it. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
Snow Fly Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I was fishing at Taney for three days the 1st week of May and then on July 11 & 12th, it looked to me they are no further along on completion than in May. I was really surprised figuring they would be done on arrival. Maybe funding was cut off? "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
